Top 5 Toys Relevant to Little Girls in the 1980-1990 Period

Christmas means many things to different people. For some, it is a celebration of Christ, our Lord. For others the commercialized appeal of Christmas is to a higher degree. Santa Claus, The North Pole, bring naughty or nice, presents, and other nice items make Christmas a joyful time. Though I am a hard core Christian, this article will focus on something far less hardcore and is targeted at those who received Christmas toys for girls on past Christmases 190-1989. I turned 3 the year Christmas 1980 began and 12 the year it ended so I remember most of these commercials.

The inspiration for this came from an old photograph taken during Christmas 1979, 1801, or 1981. My brother and I were in the picture and I, being somewhere between 2/2 years old and 4 loved the doll I had just unwrapped. To this day, I have been searching for this doll. The doll was titled "Chew Susy Chew." From what I have learned online Susy never swallowed the special food. She mixed it around in her mouth no doubt creating a mess. It is no wonder I do not recall this doll. To prove she is not in my imagination. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KPVVYLonKg I have since attempted to copy only to find the doll has increased in value to a couple of hundred dollars.

Another 1980's doll few little girls forget is the Cabbage Patch Kid. In 1982-1983 there was virtually pandemonium in finding these dolls. One cousin and I were lucky because our grandmother had the foresight to order through the Sears. This an interesting clip from Baby Land General Hospital See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhkPWhC4Da4&feature=related

An impartial list on Cabbage Patch Kids that were released after 1983 include Corn Silk (just don't get the hair wet as it becomes disgusting, Cabbage Patch Premies, Porcelain Cabbage Patch Kids, the short lived Talking Cabbage Patch Kids, and more. I even had one that could in the bathtub with me.

What 1980's girl could forget My Little Ponies? My daughter must own dozens of these do my fondness of them. She on the other hand could not possibly care less.

Pound Puppies were born girls and boys. I had an obsession with Pound Puppies even watching the cartoon and my husband admits he did as well.

The Real Baby tends to creep me out after all these years though I am unsure of why this didn't happen in 1986-1987 when I bought it. In 1986, I wanted one. My cousin was bought one for Christmas and I was incredibly jealous. By October 1986, I had my own real baby. Not sure whatever happened to the doll. It's a good thing I take better care of the two children I am control of now.
