Top 5 Websites for Cheap Airfares

Will Snizek
Finding the cheapest airfares online can be tricky if you don't know which sites are the best. In a sea of airfare sites, there are only a few that meet my expectations. The best thing to do when it comes to getting a good rate is to check out flights on multiple websites and with multiple airlines to find the ones that fits you budget. The following 5 websites are my picks for the top cheap airfare sites:

#1 Kayak.com

Kayak.com is the ultimate site to use when trying to find cheap airfares. Commonly referred to as the "Google of Travel Sites", Kayak.com is the most user-friendly and accurate airfare search site you will find on the entire net. Kayak is a travel search engine that provides you with an extremely easy-to-use display that sends you directly to the source to make your purchase. Kayak searches hundreds of travel websites, making it easy to find the lowest possible prices. "Kayak has been named "Best of the Web" by BusinessWeek, "Best of the Web" by Forbes.com, "50 Coolest Websites" by TIME Magazine, "Best Travel Search Engine" by the Associated Press, "Best Search Aid" by Travel + Leisure Magazine and "Best of the Web" by US News & World Report."

#2 Expedia.com

Expedia is a great place for bargain airfare hunting, particularly if you are looking for specific discounts such as their 10% discount for senior citizens. Expedia also tends to offer lower fares than the competition.

#3 Priceline.com

#3 Priceline.com

Priceline is a decent place for bargain hunting if you don't mind blind bidding. You can still name your own price at Priceline, but you don't get to choose departure/arrival times or the number of stops. The default search engine on Priceline has the most to offer.

#4 Yapta.com

Yapta aka "Your Amazing Personal Travel Assistant"-is an airline search engine with an emphasis on tracking airline prices before and after you purchase tickets.
Yapta will track a flight and alert you when the price falls below your desired amount. The features available on Yapta are fairly standard.

#5 Live Search Farecast

Live Search Farecast (recently added to 'bing') is another airline ticket search aggregator similar to Kayak, but has a few interesting features such as offering price predictions.

In the end, the best site for cheap airfares is Kayak.com and there really is no reason to mess around with the other sites, unless you have plenty of time on your hands for price comparisons.

Wow, just looked at Kayak and they're about $160 higher than a fare I just checked directly on SW. Will bookmark it because I get hit with crazy high fare at times flying out of Houston
