Number thirty-four on the list caught my eye, and it is Nevaeh, which is heaven spelled backward, according to www.thinkbabynames.com. Alright, am I the only person who seems to remember that music played backward could have satanic messages? The pronunciation is "ne-VAY-uh." It would be very pretty, but I can imagine how many times these little girls will have to spell and pronounce their names for people. I would advise people to thing again if they are considering this name. However, since it is so high on the list, perhaps the spelling and pronunciation issue will be moot.
Coming in at number seventy is the name Trinity. Why would anybody want to give their little girl a name like that? I am sure it is meant as a unique religious name, but please! I cannot imagine saying, "Hi. My name is Trinity Smith." It just does not work for me as a name. I have a firm belief that you set your child up to be the complete opposite of the meaning of the name, which in this case is "triad." Um, that is not quite possible for one child, unless she has multiple personalities. It might work then. Also, the trinity is sacred and holy, if my theory is correct, any child with that name will be nothing like her name. I know this from experience.
I had to look twice at the seventy-third name on the top one hundred list: Valeria. Those poor little girls. I hate to say it, but that name sounds like a sexually transmitted disease. Do people just not pay attention to these things? I am not trying to mean, but what are they thinking? It means "strong and healthy." Well, they will need those traits to get through junior high. I hate to imagine the scars those girls will have.
Low on the list, but there nonetheless, is Genesis. Wow. It means "origin, or birth." It is a great word and a book in the Bible, but a name? It is actually used for both genders, too. Why would some person slap that name on their child? I can understand wanting a biblical name while not using the ones that everyone else does. I really do, but these kids will be given a nickname that will have to do with genitalia. I feel so sorry for them.
Although this last name is not bad, I feel it should be retired for a while. The name is Mary, and it means "star of the sea." I went to school with multiple Mary's. Can we please pick another name. Mary was the mother of the Christian savior, and her name is revered, but the whole immaculate conception idea runs into the realm of my theory about name meanings and opposite personalities. If you name your child after somebody who is considered chaste, you are asking for it.
Once again, I grew up with a name my parents thought was beautiful. I have always hated it, but a my father pointed out to me: he could have named me Begonia. I can be grateful for that. Thankfully, my nickname is not too bad, and nobody really calls me Virginia. While I have scars from my teen years, at least most people do not take long to call me Ginni. You can also be certain that I was very careful when naming my own children.
