Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
This game was the largest videogame release of this generation, and for good reason. It improved on the already great and addictive gameplay of Call of Duty 4. With a campaign composed of movie like action sequences, a cooperative special ops mode, and an expanded multiplayer mode, this game would make a great gift for anyone who doesn't already have it. Due to the widespread popularity of this game, you do have to be careful to make sure that they don't already own it. If the person doesn't have Xbox Live you might want to skip this game, as that is where a large amount of the value is.
Borderlands
While this game isn't nearly as popular as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, its unique look, 4 player cooperative gameplay, RPG aspects, and endless weapon combinations, all combine to create a very fun game. While a very highly acclaimed game, it hasn't gotten overwhelming sales so chances are they won't have it already. This game is perfect for someone without Xbox Live or who enjoys single-player games.
Assassin's Creed 2
A sequel to a hugely successful original game two years ago, this game was greatly anticipated by the public. Slightly overshadowed by the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, no gamer wouldn't be happy to receive this game. It addresses all of the criticisms given to the first game by increasing the variety of weapons, tasks, assassinations, and including countless other improvements. This is another great game for those who enjoy single-player adventures.
Left 4 Dead 2
This game was released only to Xbox 360 and PC, and improves on Left 4 Dead in countless ways. It includes more weapons, bigger levels, new characters, new boss infected, and melee weapons. It also includes an improved AI system. Sure to please any shooting game fan, this game is made for cooperative play and really shines on Xbox Live or on splitscreen.
Halo ODST
This game was released only to the Xbox 360, and is the next installment in the Halo series. Following the story of an ODST Helljumper, the campaign mode of this game tweaks the style of Halo 3 while also providing open world elements. It also includes the full Halo 3 multiplayer game as well as all the Halo 3 maps made so far. Along with the Halo 3 multiplayer, it also includes a new multiplayer game mode called Firefight, where players try to kill wave after wave of covenant troops. This game would be a great purchase for fans of the Halo series or those who have Xbox Live but don't have Halo 3.
