Top 6 Mom Podcasts

Melissa Kowalewski
So, like just about every contributor to Associated Content, I spend way too much time online, for better or for worse. I don't just write articles, though. I listen to podcasts. Lots of them. In fact, I listen to so many of them, that I have to clean up my hard drive every few weeks or so, just to make sure that I have enough memory to download more and more podcasts.

For those of you that are computer terminology illiterate, podcasts are audio or video digital files that are syndicated. Some come out daily, some weekly and some are less regular. They can be on any topic - some are about books and literature, some about travel. You get the point. There are probably podcasts on just about any topic you can imagine. Today's story is about my top six mommy podcasts.

  1. The Manic Mommies - The Manic Mommies are Kristen and Erin. They are located in Massachusetts and broadcast weekly, usually. They discuss the challenges that working moms everywhere in the United States have to face on a daily basis, juggling careers, marriages and family, without dropping the ball. And they do it with excitement, intelligence and gusto. I LOVE the Manic Mommies!
  2. Mommycast - is done by Paige and Gretchen, in Washington D.C. They do everything from craft ideas, to interviews and book reviews. They are also a wonderful source of information.
  3. Pediacast - is a pediatric podcast for parents run by Doctor Mike. Doctor Mike usually updates weekly, but lately, hasn't been updating as regularly because he and the family are moving to Florida. As a result of the move, he is on a bi-weekly schedule. His shows are usually an hour long and has a news segment and a question and answer segment, where he highlights three questions that listeners send in either on email or on the phone line. Topics have included dry drowning, belly button issues in toddlers and babies born with teeth. I have gotten an insane amount of good information from this podcast.
  4. MojoMom - she is a WONDERFUL source of information on how to nurture yourself while giving so much of yourself to children and jobs or family. Her podcasts have been infrequent lately but when she does record, they are chock full of interviews, book recommendations and creative ideas.
  5. Creative Mom - a weekly podcast started in June of 2006 that features music and ideas on how to foster the creative side of mom, from writing to sewing to knitting and beyond. The show tends to promote an organic, natural lifestyle and is very relaxing. I particularly love how music selections are included in the show - not many podcasts that I have come across do that and it is very effective in setting the mood.
  6. Mom of many - short, ten minute, weekly podcasts recorded by a mom of nine (that's right, nine) children. Topics include everything from suggestions on how to decorate for the holidays to coping with a miscarriage.

These ladies (and gentleman - Doctor Mike!) are awesome podcasters and an inspiration to all - moms and non parents alike!
