Reason #1 to not live in Hayward, CA. No good food.
If you're looking to culture your palate don't bother looking for anything in Hayward. Hayward, CA is full of chain restaurants and while there are a few authentic taco shops and small business owned eateries they are nothing to recommend. In the two years we have been living here we have explored a lot of food joints and none of them have made us want to go back for more.
Reason #2 to not live in Hayward, CA. No night life.
Hayward is not a very happening city. There aren't any decent places to go out dancing on a Saturday night. Most of the bars and clubs are hole in the wall places that aren't very fun. Don't live here if dancing and drinking are seldom or frequent activities you enjoy doing in close proximity to your home. Unfortunately, this isn't just subject to Hayward, most cities in the East Bay area lack an eventful nocturnal social life. Make the trip to San Jose or San Francisco if you wish to really have some fun.
Reason #3 to not live in Hayward, CA. Too many liquor stores.
Dave Chappelle poked fun about ghetto cities. He said, you know when you are in the ghetto when you see liquor stores on every street corner. If you live in Hayward expect just that. Where we live there are about six liquor stores within a 1.5 mile radius. If you live where there are a lot of liquor stores chances are there are also a lot more alcoholics thus making it a relatively unsafe city to live in.
Reason #4 to not live in Hayward, CA. Its an industrial city.
In Hayward, California expect to constantly be driving slow behind large semi's and moving trucks. This city is full of factories that send out and receive large quantities of products. The city is littered and the constant smell of polluted air can leave unfavorable smells lingering in your nose.
Reason #5 to not live in Hayward, CA. There is no downtown.
The downtown area of any city is supposed to be known for its culture, restaurants, social atmosphere, and local events. Don't expect any of that here. There won't be any large celebrations or ongoing activities for yourself or any children. This town lacks a community spirit.
Reason #6 to not live in Hayward, CA. Abandoned buildings.
Nothing screams dead like abandoned businesses and homes. Hayward, California is full of them. Drive down Mission which is a street that extends the furthest both north and south in the Bay Area and you'll see empty boarded up businesses in the central part of the city.
