Undiscovered - James Morrison
This is such a beautiful song. The chorus says "I'm not lost, just undiscovered. When we're alone, we're all the same as each other." The back-up gospel singers really add that feeling of power, of goodness, of strength. Who doesn't need to be reminded at times that they aren't lost?
Beautiful - Christina Aguilera
Every time I hear this song, I cry. The message is so uplifting, and the music video is so poignant. The video depicts an anorexic girl, an aging cross-dresser, a twentysomething goth, a young boy struggling with his body image, a gay couple, a woman past her 'prime', a girl with kinky curly hair and braces, and a young black woman and how each of these people have overcome their fears and realized they are beautiful just the way they are.
It's My Life - Bon Jovi
I included this song on my list of songs celebrating being single. It's just a great motivating song that it belongs here too. "I just wanna live while I'm alive." It pushes us to get moving and do what needs to get done. This song actually inspires me to get my chores done! (Okay, so maybe that's stretching it a little!)
Move Along - All American Rejects
'Move Along' tells the listener that when all the hope is gone, just do what needs to be done. Keep moving forward. A friend of mine once told me that if I wasn't moving ahead, I was falling behind. "Speak to me, when all you got to keep it strong, move along, move along, like I know you do. And even when your hope is gone, move along, move along, just to make it through."
The Great Escape - Boys Like Girls
When this song comes on my car radio, I crank up the volume and belt out the words. "Tonight we'll change our lives... we won't give up the fight." It's the perfect song for forgetting your troubles for a while and just getting out there and take a risk. "Throw it away. Forget yesterday. We'll make the great escape. We won't hear a word they say. They don't know us anyway. Watch it burn. Let it die. Cause we are finally free, tonight."
Stronger - Kanye West
Admittedly, I'm not a follower of Kanye West. I couldn't tell you another song he sings. But this song struck a chord with me. The line "That that don't kill me can only make me stronger" is a mantra I've repeated throughout my life (only a bit more grammatically correct). The techno music makes me wanna bounce in my seat. When I need a pick-me-up, this is the song I pull up on youtube.com.
