Top 7 Gambling Tips for the Casino Bound

Zac Wassink
A trip to the casino is a great way to spend an entire afternoon. However, it can be made less enjoyable if you lose all of your money. Here are a few tips for the casino bound to ensure that both fun and profits can be had.

1. Go for a stroll. My first tip is that upon entering the casino, take a walk around before settling in one spot. Much like in baseball, there is no time clock in gambling. Take your time finding areas in the casino where you feel comfortable. Think of the casino as a city. There are parts that you enjoy and parts you would never go to. Finding the area that suits you will make your gambling experience that much more enjoyable.

2. Cheap slots are just as much fun as the dollar slots. This tip follows the first because you often have to walk around the casino in order to find the cheaper slot machines. Sure, the quarter and dollar machines are marked by well-lit signs. This is because the casino wants you to spend all of your money on the more expensive machines. Tip number two reminds you that a nickel slot machine work the same way as a dollar one. Not to mention the less expensive machines can also pay out nicely. I once cashed out over two hundred dollars that I won on nickel slots alone. Gambling does not have to always involve large stakes.

3. Pay attention to the machines around you. Tip number three may be somewhat lacking in the ethics department, but it will definitely help your odds at the casino. Watch how others are doing at a certain machine, and notice whether or not they have been winning. If somebody has been losing for a long period of time at one particular machine, wait until they leave. When they do, jump right into their spot. Chances are greater that a machine that has not been paying out for awhile is due. Sure, this may not be nice, but winning makes gambling a whole lot more fun.

4. Leave the credit and debit cards at home. This tip is a good way to stay out of trouble if the casino trip is not going exactly the way you may have planned. Not bringing any cards in ensures that once you are out of money, your time is done. Gambling is no different than going out to the bar with your buddies. It can be an enjoyable experience, but can also become costly if not done in moderation.

5. Poker is not gambling. Also, you are not Phil Helmuth. Tip number five reminds you that watching every episode of the World Series of Poker on ESPN does not mean you are ready to play at a casino. More often than not a poker table at a casino is full of people who are at the very least moderately talented. If this is not you, then save your money for something else.

6. Studying never hurt anybody. There are hundreds of books available at your disposal when it comes to gambling. Head to a local library a few days before your casino trip and check these books out, especially if you are unfamiliar with the games that you will be playing. If you do not have the time for this, there is always the internet. Use these tools to find tips on anything from the slots to blackjack.

7. Gambling is meant to be fun. My final tip reminds you that you are supposed to enjoy your time at the casino, not lament it. Gambling is about the adrenaline rush that you get while you are at the casino. Remember that most people lose money, but that is not the point. Grab a group of your friends and make a day of it. A casino really is a lot of fun, whether or not it is profitable. And if you lose, just put things into perspective. How much money would it cost to go to a theater to catch a movie, followed by having dinner at a restaurant?

Hopefully these tips will keep a smile on your face and some money in your wallet. Remember that gambling is no different than a roller coaster. It has both ups and downs, but in the end you'll most likely have a sick feeling in your stomach.
