Top 7 Most Common Diabetes Symptoms

You May Have Diabetes Without Even Knowing It!

As strange as it may sound, more than 5 million people have diabetes and aren't even aware of it! This probably makes the disease seem like it isn't that harmful to you, but it really can be. This is why it is very important to recognize the major signs and symptoms of diabetes. Here are the ten most common signs that you may have diabetes:

1.Frequent urination: When you have diabetes, your kidneys are forced to work extra hard because you have so much excess sugar in your body. Usually, your kidneys just can't keep up with it and as a result, all the extra sugar is excreted into your urine. This causes you to urinate more often.

2. Excessive thirst: Because your body needs to urinate more when you have diabetes, this makes you very thirsty throughout the day, which in turn makes you urinate even more.

3.Weight changes: Having diabetes usually causes your body to keep sugars from reaching your cells. This is a big problem because you aren't able to consume the calories that you need. Because of this, many people lose weight when they develop diabetes. Be aware that weight gain is also a concern because excess fatty tissues raises your blood sugar and makes you much more likely to develop diabetes.

4. Constant hunger: Since your body isn't getting the calories it needs each day, it makes you constantly hungry. If diabetes goes untreated, your body will literally be starving itself.

5. Blurred vision: When you have diabetes, your blood sugar is higher than it should be. This actually causes fluid to be pulled from the tissues of your body, even the tissues in your eyes. As a result, you will have trouble focusing. If diabetes is left untreated you will eventually begin to see dark spots, flashing lights, and possibly even blindness.

6. Infections or sores that take a long time to go away: The high blood sugar level in your body makes the healing process very slow. Urinary tract and bladder infections are very common. You may also develop gum infections in your mouth.

7. Numbness in extremities: High blood sugar also causes nerve damage in your body. Sufferers of diabetes commonly have loss of sensation in their feet and hands.

If you notice any of these symptoms, please see your doctor as soon as possible. The earlier diabetes is found, the easier it is to treat. Your condition will become much worse the longer it is left untreated. Diabetes is very serious so if you suspect you may have it, don't wait around to seek help.
