Top 8 Hanukkah Myspace Layout Sites

Narrowing Down a Challenging Search

Eric Pudalov
In Judaism, Hanukkah (a.k.a. Chanuka, Hanukah, etc.) isn't actually as important a holiday as Christmas is to Christians. However, because it falls around the same time of year, and also involves gift-giving, it shares many of the same traditions. Therefore, MySpace has quite a few Hanukkah themes as well.

By the way, some of the sites that have these layouts and graphics also offer Christmas ones; if you happen to celebrate both, then why not use one for MySpace and one for your blog? In any case, here are a few selections:

1. JewishLayout.com - This site, as would be expected, has some awesome (and funny) Hanukkah graphics. In fact, it's superior to many of the sites below in a lot of ways. The best graphic, in my opinion, features a picture of Dr. Dre spinning a Dreidel, with the words "Dr. Dreidel." His line? "Shin, put one in. Fo' shizzle." Others are more straightforward, but many feature beautiful photos and funny sayings. There are also graphics for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkoth, Purim, and Passover.

Disadvantages: The site only includes Jewish holidays, so there isn't as broad a selection as some of the sites that feature most or all of the major religious holidays.

2. JewishMySpaceLayout.com - Here, you'll find a few great backgrounds and themes related to Hanukkah (not as many as the above site, however.) And while it's up to you, I'd avoid at all costs the wallpaper that says "happyhanukkahhappyhanukkah" repeatedly.

Disadvantages: Some of the themes offered here are really cheesy...but don't let that dissuade you.

3. 123glitter.com - Unfortunately, there are only a few selections at this site as well; on the other hand, what's available is very pretty. Most feature glitter, dreidels, or menorahs, and some variation on the words "Happy Hanukkah."

Disadvantages: Limited choice of graphics, and no overall themes.

4. Illpic.com: Hanukkah Comments - While this site, too, offers only a brief selection, just about all of the choices are gorgeous and fun. Many of the graphics are decorated in blue and white, the colors of the Israeli flag; some are animated as well. Check it out!

Disadvantages: The site has a lot of ads...but there don't seem to be any pop-ups or redirections, at least.

5. DevilGraphics.com - Once again, there are only a few graphics here, but at least what they have is quality. They have some stunning shots of menorahs in their comments!

Disadvantages: Limited selection and less variation between the different graphics.

6. Chromaluna.com: Hanukkah - Finally, a site that has decent selection! There are quite a few colorful and garish comments on this site, and copying the comments is easy.

Disadvantages: There are a lot of banner ads; however, there are no pop-ups, apparently.

7. CommentsJunkie.com: Hanukkah - Comments Junkie has a better selection than some of the above sites, featuring comments such as "Gimme gelt," and "Instead of one day of presents, we get eight crazy nights." (Catch the Adam Sandler reference?) The graphics are very pretty and colorful, and the codes are easy to copy.

Disadvantages: Limited selection, but better than many of the other sites.

8. CriticalLayouts.com - Of all the sites, this one may actually have the largest selection (believe it or not!) Some of the graphics lack the extravagance of the above sites, but at the very least, there are quite a few to browse.

Disadvantages: Less flashy and not quite as colorful graphics.

By the way, if you're unfamiliar with how to apply the graphics, simply copy and/or cut the HTML code (usually in a box below the image) and paste it into your About Me (or any other section) of your profile. It's actually quite easy.

So, hopefully that narrows it down! Unfortunately, almost none of the sites have the same selection as those that feature Christmas graphics...but then again, you can always mix and match, and create your own custom design!

Have a happy Hanukkah, and be sure to get Farshikkert (drunk, that is)!
