Top 8 Hilarious Segments from the Phil Hendrie Radio Show: Where the Joke is on You
Humorous Article
It is like Borat; where under the guise of outrageous taboo subjects and toilet humor lays social commentary. Phil Hendrie shifts rapidly between a studio microphone and a regular telephone, creating the illusion that his guest has called into the show. To add to the illusion there is telephone line often feature prerecorded background noises simulating a bowling alley, a busy street, a highway and a bathroom. The radio calls sound faded with crinkling static noise in the background and loud huffing sounds of breathing into the phone. Even the radio commercials sound real. The commercial for Surrey Steakhouse is hilarious it has a lively, catchy jingle that declares "We want to put our meat in your Bleep!!! It is a great commercial that leaves you humming the jingle. Those unfortunate enough to not hear the disclaimer in the beginning of the show stating that the show is not real will believe it is.
The 8 great hilarious Phil Hendrie segments are:
1.
George Lucas the Bigot- a white shopkeeper (Phil Hendrie) is suing George Lucas because he blames him for African American's not buying Menthol cigarettes. He believes that the African American's are not buying Menthol cigarettes any longer because they are rebelling against their portrayal in the Star Wars films. The guest goes on to say that Lucas when he was a teenager wasn't able to buy Menthol cigarettes from the African American shopkeeper. So Lucas gets back at him twenty years later by creating the character of Darth Vader who is dressed in black and has a deep voice caused by emphysema from smoking all those packs of Menthol cigarettes. Yoda represents the Civil Rights Pioneer Rosa Parks. The guest continues to insist that Lando who is the only real African American turns out to be a traitor and Chewbacca looks like one too. It was so scandalous and over the top that people called in arguing with the guest for the last two hours of the show. This segment was the first show I listened. I was spinning around the dial when I fell on this and I actually became angry enough to want to call in. They replayed the disclaimer again and I just felt stupid and enjoyed the rest of the show as a fan, in on the joke.
2.
Found in Audio Archives: The President of the Western Estate's Homeowner's Association Bobbie Doolie (Phil Hendrie) takes it upon herself to redecorate a neighbor's home when they are on vacation in Hawaii. She repaints the walls in the house and rearranges the furniture to her own preference. The owner of the house returns from vacation sees what she's done and sues Bobbie Doolie for invasion of privacy. The neighbor gave her the key to water the plants not redesign her house. The Phil Hendrie segments with Bobbie Doolie are ABSOLUTE CLASSICS! She is just so outrageous. Callers called in chastising her by calling her names calling her a selfish bitch and worst. And all the while Bobbie Doolie (Phil Hendrie) is calm and cool not understanding the impact of what she's done.
3.
Found in Audio Archives- Another Classic Bobbie Doolie segment is when she is petitioning to bulldozer the neighborhood's main library to construct a row of new houses. She doesn't plan to reconstruct the library anywhere near the neighborhood again. Bobbie Doolie claims that it will bring more money into the neighborhood as well as make her and her family very rich. She explains to the audience that she thinks the library is obsolete; people usually do their research these days online. Callers call in absolutely flabbergasted at the thought. I was on the floor laughing hysterically.
4. Zeroks-Aryan bigot/Uber republican Austin Amarka is very upset. He lost a SCRABBLE game tournament to an African American because of a Jewish-controlled media. This is one is really funny. People call in calling him a blithering idiot as well as awful names. Austin becomes so angry that he starts cursing the callers. All you hear for twenty minutes are bleeps and then he hangs up.
5.
Gun Safety! -Austin Amarka is back this time he is campaigning to teach our children the proper way to use a gun. He explains that the reason why children are dying or are having accidents is because they don't know how to use a gun. This incites a rush of callers who curse at him and call him a Freakin' idiot! And again he gets so angry that he hangs up.
6.
Gone With The Wind Kwanza Party- Bobbie Doolie decides to throw a holiday Kwanza Party and decides to use Gone With The Wind as a theme. She asks her African American neighbor for advice on costumes. This is really hilarious. A person with no sense of humor should not hear this b/c it does get more outrageous. Callers African American and otherwise calls in to straightened Bobbie out. There is a part in the show where Phil Hendrie comes very near to stopping the show to remind people that it is only a joke. He doesn't though he just ends the segment quickly. It is hilarious though.
7.
Our Son is Changing-Bobbie Doolie's son is growing up and her feelings are hurt when he doesn't allow her to bath him anymore. The funniest part of this bit is when Bobbie Doolie begins to describe how he washes them. The callers call Bobbie Doolie a pedophile and threaten to call social services. I thought Phil Hendrie was going to close this segment also after it became ugly.
8.
Special Island- Producer Brad Rifkin wants to produce a new Reality Show called
"Special Island" which involves physically challenged contestants. Hilarious especially when Brad Rifkin (Phil Hendrie) explains how he will have the contestants compete in the challenges.
The Phil Hendrie's show ran for 18 years, from August 1990 till June 2006. You can find reruns of The Phil Henrie shows in Archives located at www.Philhendrieshow.com. You will laugh until you cry. It is a great way to remedy that bad day you had in work.

Post a CommentMy favorite Bobbie Dooley moment came back around 2000, when Bobbie was determined to sleep with her neighbor's husband as revenge for her neighbor's stealing Bobbie's "signature hair style." Bobbie announced she'd give the husband EVERYTHING too: "oral, anal...backstage pass". Man, it was funny.
Half asleep not have asleep.
Can't sleep and started listening to KIRO and the Phil Hendrie show. I cannot believe people believe this. It is so comical - have asleep I knew it had to be one guy. Just says how stupid Americans really are. Sad - but true!
Phil's show is not as wild as before but is still a good listen at 11:pm - 2:00am here in Los Angeles. One great bit from long ago was a little old lady who called in and went ballistic on Phil's "boss". She was calling him a pig and a disgusting human being and much more. A classic radio bit back when Phil was on KFI. I now catch him on 1150am KTLK.
My favorite character is Pastor William Rennick. He's always raising money from his congregation at Joyful Union Baptist Church for some self-serving interest be it a 7 jet spa from money he was supposed to use to donate to victims of a coal mine collapse or a porche which he lost to a gay guy in a drag race for pink slips down LaHacienega Blvd in LA.
Hi Mac,
That's too bad. I used love his show. It was so funny! And so clever.
His show sucks now. He always said he'd never do a "commentary" show. That's all he's doing these days. People listened to his show to get away from it all. Now it's all news and opinions.
Thanks Phil,I love your speed and wit,as well as political straight and narrow.Like a meth head on more meth;)
Anyone who can't separate the politics from the talent has got something wedged too tight and is a total and utter lightweight. Thank You!!
Phil seems to be pushing his political agendas more and more now. Not funny...
