Plus, these URL shorteners are URL shorteners with benefits. Each one has a little extra somethin' somethin' to keep you coming back for more.
The main reasons to use a free service to shorten a web site address is simply because a URL to one of your articles or videos is just too long. Some disadvantages to using URL shorteners: the "new" web site address may diminish credibility. Some users may be less likely to click on the URL because they have no idea that will bring them an article or video at Associated Content, or a YouTube article, or a MySpace page.

Another great article. Thanks for listing so many choices and their downfalls.
To webmaster@(traceurl?) Great to know!!! I like that option!!
Hey Pam!
Great review. Thank you for listing traceurl.com :-)
About the drawback you mentioned, at traceurl.com you can choose a custom prefix for the short URL. So instead of getting something like 'http://traceurl.com/rdS?r=60&l=8' you can create a link looks like this 'http://traceurl.com/go/2/visitPamGaulin'.
Great info Pam. I never employed one of these as I wasn't sure how it would affect Google/YouTube ranking (as opposed to a direct URL) but to pass info on and promote like you said this may be worth looking into. I didn't know of some of these. Thanks.
Great info here, I never really saw a benefit to these kind of sites but you may have changed my mind.
Great article and information!
Interesting, Pam. I'd never heard of this. Now I know what that tinyurl thing is!
Very helpful article. I'd actually been thinking about this.
Melanie, you're right, they are not for every site, only for the really long URLs we generate at different sites. I found it useful to link a Google Map that I created, and for my AC articles with longer URLs. It may also be useful for video URLs, which tend to be long.
