Agnes Scott College is prestigious private liberal arts women's college located in downtown Decatur, Georgia. The campus is located only six miles away from the downtown area of Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1889, the high ranking college is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. In addition to academic scholarships, there are quite a few Presbyterian scholarships available.
The Tradition of Agnes Scott
The tradition at Agnes Scott College is one of academic excellence. The campus itself is of brick and stone Gothic and Victorian designed buildings have in the past been awarded with recognition as one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. The college sits on 100 acres with some of Georgia's oldest trees gracing the campus. The downtown Decatur location has recently experienced a renaissance and is now a village type atmosphere with many boutiques and bistros.
An Excellent Academic Tradition at Agnes Scott
33% of Agnes Scott students were in the top 10% of their high school graduating classes and the average GPA of new students was 3.57. The median scores for the SAT was 1270 and for the ACT, 28.
In both the past and present, Agnes Scott grads have received some of the most prestigious scholarships available in academics: The Rhodes scholarship, The Fulbright Scholarship, the Goldwater Scholarship and the Pickering Fellowship. In addition, Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded. Over half of the student body will study abroad at some point in their Agnes Scott career.
Agnes Scott Scholarships
Agnes Scott has much to offer young women in the way of undergraduate scholarships. All of these scholarships are renewable yearly for the entire college career, as long as appropriate GPAs are maintained. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. For the most competitive scholarships, finalists will be invited to the campus each February for Scholars Weekend and to interview with the Scholarship Committee. All scholarships are awarded through the Admissions Office and the number awarded is up to their discretion. There are both merit and need based scholarships, and the college has many of them.
A Great Deal for Georgia Female Residents
Any Georgia resident applicant that qualifies for the Georgia HOPE Scholarship for Georgia Public Colleges and Universities will be awarded an automatic $15,000 per year. This is called the Agnes Solution.
The following academic scholarships are on top of this award for Georgia residents. Here are the top five. These are also available for out-of-state high achieving women.
The Presidential Scholarships
This is the most prestigious scholarship offered by Agnes Scott. It completely covers the full cost of tuition and room and board over four years. Students chosen to be Presidential Scholars have excelled in academics, leadership, personal commitments and community involvement while in high school.
Dean's Scholarships
The Agnes Scott Dean's Scholars are awarded $20,000 per year. A qualified applicant will have a 3.75 -- 4.0 GPA in high school and graduated in the top 5% of her high school class with a score of 1400 on the SAT or a score of 28 on the ACT. She will also have demonstrated leadership in her school and community.
Letitia Pate Evans Scholarships
The Letitia Pate Evans Scholars at Agnes Scott are awarded $15,000 per year and will have achieved a 3.5 -- 4.0 GPA in their high school academic career. They must rank in the top 10% of their high school graduating class. As in the other scholarships, they must have demonstrated leadership skills and active community involvement. The minimum SAT score is from 1300 -- 1920 or an ACT score of 28.
Agnes Scott Presbyterian Scholarships
The Agnes Scott Presbyterian Scholarships are for $10,000 per year. Qualified applicants must show an active leadership role within the Presbyterian Church, as well as excelling in academics.
Frances Winship Walters Scholarships
The Frances Winship Walters Scholarships are in the amount of $10,000 per year. Qualified applicants will have a 3.3 -- 4.0 GPA in high school and must have graduated in the top 20% portion of their high school class. Successful applicants will have scored at least 1200 on the SAT or 26 on the ACT.
