Top African American Christmas Movies

Stephanie Armstrong
There are so many lists for the top Christmas movies of all time, but I wanted to share my family's favorite African American Christmas movies. Most of them are heartwarming, funny and filled with juicy drama. Note that some of these may not be family films or considered suitable for young viewers.

"The Perfect Holiday"
Gabrielle Union stars in this romantic comedy about a daughter who asks Santa to give her mother a compliment for Christmas. Sparks fly between Santa, played by Morris Chestnut, and Union 's character.

"The Preacher's Wife"
This Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington Christmas classic is about an angel who was sent to help a couple strengthen their marriage. Courtney B. Vance, Lionel Richie and Gregory Hines also star in this film.

"This Christmas"
A family that hasn't celebrated Christmas together in years comes together to celebrate the holidays, but they bring their drama with them. This movie shows the struggles and strength of family bonds. Loretta Devine, Regina King, Laz Alonso and Chris Brown star in "This Christmas."

"Fat Albert's Christmas Special"
Fat Albert and the gang are rehearsing for an upcoming Christmas play in their clubhouse when the owner, Tyrone, threatens to tear it down. Fat Albert is also trying to save a homeless family from Tyrone. This is one of the best African American Christmas movies because it has a wonderful message about the true meaning of Christmas.

"Call Me Claus"
Whoopi Goldberg fans will love "Call Me Clause." Whoopi stars as a TV show producer that has to save Christmas by taking over as Santa. Santa Claus' contract is about to expire and he chooses her as his replacement in this funny Christmas comedy.

"Last Holiday"
Queen Latifah plays an underappreciated department store clerk who finds out that has a terminal illness. When she realizes that this may be her last Christmas, she uses her savings to go on a luxurious winter vacation. LL Cool J is also in this hilarious Christmas movie.

"Kudzu Christmas"
Kudzu Christmas is a heartwarming tale about a single mother and her son. They just moved to Georgia and try to help puppies out in the Kudzu bushes near their home.

"Friday After Next"
This third installment of the "Friday" series adds a little comedy to the holiday season. Craig, played by Ice Cube, and Day-Day, played by Mike Epps, are robbed by a burglar dressed in a Santa suit.

"Diva's Christmas Carol"
Starring Vanessa Williams, "Diva's Christmas Carol" is a modern take on "A Christmas Carol." Williams plays the female version of Scrooge and even sings a few songs.
