BEVs or Battery Electric Vehicles are vehicles whose main sources of energy are the chemical energy derived from batteries. BEVs are the best example of passenger vehicles with zero emission as they do not produce or make emissions that can harm the atmosphere as they are being driven. An example of a BEV is the EV1 automobile released by General Motors. The said car was produced and released by the said company back from 1996 - 1999. Back then, these cars ranged from $299 - $574 monthly for the initial price of $33,995. The difference in monthly price is from the presence of state rebates, if available.
CNGs or Compressed Natural Gas is a cleaner alternative to gas or petroleum. Compressed natural gas has the ability to disperse in air very quickly when emitted from vehicles as it is lighter than air. In the event that an oil spill should happen, compressed natural gas is much easier to clean when compared to regular gas or petroleum. An example of a vehicle that runs on compressed natural gas is the 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 HD with a base price of $23,915 and the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with a price of $26,395.
Autogas or LPG is the common term for liquefied petroleum gas. LPG can be used as an alternative to fuel in vehicles. Autogas is often referred to as "green" fuel because it is less harmful to the environment compared to the traditional gas or petroleum that powers automobiles. Most vehicles can be converted to LPG or autogas. The conversion process costs $4,000 - $12,000. Even though the amount to be shelled out can be expensive, its costs are well returned in the long run.
These vehicles which are an alternative to fuel may seem expensive at the onset, and these vehicles may be quite difficult to find and purchase. These vehicles may also need some effort in converting, like LPG vehicles, but the savings are well worth it. At the same time, using these vehicles that do not run on regular gas or petroleum also help in saving the environment.
