Top Animated Programs (For Adults)

How to Distinquish Between Animated Programs for Adults and Programs for Children!

Ken Lyons
The animation industry now has a thin line for both children and parents. Cartoons of today now are not only made for kids, but also many of them made for adults. Several animated programs are ONLY for adults. Not that there are not a few kids slipping through the cracks and watching such programs anyway (which is bad), adults still must make sure to put their foot down on the problem, and work as hard as they can to regulate exactly what kinds of programs there children are watching.

The thin line between children's cartoons and adult cartoons seems to be slowly thinning, but through good research and understanding of the top adult animated programs, one will be able to gather what to watch out for as you bounce between the lines of what is normally good and not good for children as far as cartoons are concerned.

First, look at the top animated programs…technically for the adult audience ONLY. Many times the assumption is that the programs are for everyone, or for the entire family, but common sense must be in play during these times of on - demand digital cable and satellite television. And let us not mention the vast video of animated programs on the internet.

Programs you should keep an eye on and know from the start that are for adults only would be programs like the following:

• "King of the Hill" - FOX Television
• "The Simpsons" - FOX Television
• "Family Guy" - FOX Television
• "American Dad" - FOX Television
• "South Park" - Comedy Central, also in syndication on regular TV
• "Drawn Together" - Comedy Central

And there are several other programs that exist outside of these most popular programs. Many of these shows air usually during the prime time or during the times that it is rather late in the evening.

Regardless, it is important to regulate and keep an eye on exactly what programs are appropriate for you, and if you have kids, what to watch out for!

Another question that may arise in those who are very concerned would be as follows: "What makes an animated program for adults, FOR ADULTS!?"

In an animated program, especially for adults, you have numerous jokes and one liners that you would expect most adults between the ages of 18 and up to repeat to there friends and others, but not expect children to repeat and act on. In fact, it would be very inappropriate in most cases for kids to repeat such things that are heard from shows like "South Park" and "Family Guy."

Granted there are some phrases or situations that may be funny, but many remarks in some of the shows listed above may be offensive to some, and you could have your hands full if you're not regulating what is live on the air in your home.

Along with phrases and words that are for adults and the minds of the more mature audience only, would be content. There are several levels of violent, sexual, or suggestive content in adult animation that adults may get or understand, but in children's cartoons, none of would exist in most cases. If anything, the worse that you would get from a truly animated program dedicated only to children would be fantasy and violence…of course, that's just from the content list I made.

Yes it does take time to know and understand what is on the air, and it does take time to get to know what your child is watching, especially when your at home!! But again, through careful research and observation of programming, you will be successful in discerning what programs are on what end, as far as standing near the thin line between adult animated programs and children's programming.

You're so right.Only Only I think sometimes that the adult cartoons are TOO TOO mature for adults relying too much on Very, Very dirty jokes for a laugh. Well, to me anyway. And I'm not a prude. Bye.
