Top Baby Shower Game Ideas

B.J. Rychener
My best friend is having a baby and I was asked to help with the planning of the Baby Shower, in particular the games. Since the games are the best part of the Baby Shower (for those who aren't collecting presents that is) I want to make sure that I have the most entertaining and fun games that are out there.

After hours of combing the internet for the best baby shower games I was able to compile the following list of games that I think will knock your baby shower guests' baby booties off!

1. Don't Say Baby

You'll Need
* Diaper Pins

Party Time
As each guest arrives, give them a diaper pin to wear. Once all of your guests have arrived, tell everyone that they can't say 'baby' for the duration of the shower (or until it's time to open presents). If anyone hears someone else saying the forbidden word, he or she can steal the rule breaker's pin. At the end of the game, the person with the most pins wins a gift - a decorative pin that can be worn with or with out the baby makes a great prize for the winner.

2. Guess the Baby Game

You'll Need
* Paper
* Pens
* Baby Photos of guests

Party Time
With each invite, include a note instructing guests to bring along their own baby picture. As each guest arrives, assign a number to each picture and post it up on the wall. Give ever guest a piece of paper that is numbered and have them write the name of the person next to the corresponding baby picture. Most correct answers wins! You can give a picture frame as the prize for this one

3. Baby Items in the Bag

You'll Need
* Various baby items (at least 10)
* Diaper Bag
* Paper
* Pens

Party Time
Put baby items inside a diaper bag - i.e. a bib, teething ring, rattle, bottle and diaper. Give each guest a pen and paper before passing the diaper bag around. Without looking, each person should stick a hand inside the bag and identify as many items as possible in two minutes (per guest). Person with the most correct guesses gets a prize and the mother-to-be gets the diaper bag filled with baby essentials!

4. Mommy's Secrets

You'll Need
* Paper
* Pens

Party Time
Ask the mother-to-be for answers to twenty questions prior to the party. Some great questions include, "Where were you when you heard the news?" "Do you want a girl or boy?" and "If you could have your way, what would you want your child to be when he or she grows up?" Each guest answers the questions and the one with the most answers matching the mother-to-be wins!

5. Baby Sketch Artists

You'll Need
* Paper Plates
* Markers

Party Time
Pass out sturdy paper plates and markers to all of your guests and tell them that the object to this game is to draw a baby on the paper plate. But, it has to be done with the paper plate on their head. This will definitely get everyone laughing.

6. Guess the Baby Food

You'll Need
* Various jars of baby food
* Paper
* Pens

Party Time
This is one of my absolute favorite baby shower games. Prepare 6 - 10 jars of baby food by removing the labels and what ever else may give away what is in the jar. It may be necessary to put the baby food in separate but similar bowls. Let every guest sample the baby food and write down what they think it is. The person with the best taster wins.

7. Guess the Mother's Measurements

You'll Need
* Ball of yarn
* Scissors

Party Time
Pass around a ball of yarn and scissors and have each guest cut a length of string that they think accurately measures the size of the mother-to-be's belly. When everyone has a piece of string, invite each person up to try his or her luck measuring the mom-to-be's belly. The string that comes closest wins.

8. Diaper Derby

You'll Need
* Several rolls of toilet paper

Party Time
Divide the baby shower guests in to teams and give each team a roll of toilet paper. The goal is to 'diaper' one of the team members in under 5 minutes. The team with the most creatively diapered baby wins.

9. Birthing Babies

You'll Need
* Small plastic babies

Party Time
The night before the baby shower, freeze tiny plastic babies into ice cubes. When guests arrive, drop an ice cube into a cup of water and present to each person. As time ticks by, the ice begins to melt and the baby is closer and closer to its due date! Whoever has a baby first, wins. Or, change it up by asking people to correctly guess how long it will take for their baby to be born.

10. Baby Price is Right

You'll Need
* Various baby items
* Blank note cards

Party Time
Write the price of each baby shower item on one side of the card, and the baby shower item itself on the other side of the card. Gather guests together and play it just like the TV show 'The Price is Right': each guest must guess the price of the items on the cards, and the person with the highest total-without going over-wins. Best of all, the parents-to-be get to keep the handy baby items used for the game.

11. Place the Baby on the Mommy

You'll Need
* Poster size picture of the mom-to-be's pregnant profile
* Cut outs of babies
* Double-sided tape

Party Time
This game is a variation of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. After spinning the guest, each must walk to the wall and pin the baby on the mommy. Whoever gets it closest to the tummy, wins.

12. Feed the Baby

You'll Need
* Applesauce
* Spoons and Bowls

Party Time
Split the guests into two teams and blindfold one member from each team. Have the team members feed the applesauce to the blindfolded team member. The fastest duo to finish their applesauce wins. Of course, the best part is watching everyone spill and dribble all over themselves!

13. Baby Shower Onesies

You'll Need
* Baby Onesies (multiple sizes)
* Fabric Paint and misc baby safe decorative items
* Cardboard

Party Time
Give each guest a onesie. Have them stretch it over a piece of cardboard and decorate. Once dry, the future parents will have practical works of art to cherish.

14. Diaper Raffle

You'll Need
* Baby Onesies (multiple sizes)
* Fabric Paint and misc baby safe decorative items
* Cardboard

Party Time
On average, a newborn pees and poops enough to go though 70 diapers per week. That's why this simple game is such an amazing gift for the parents-to-be. Include a note with your baby shower invitations letting guests know that you'll be raffling off an amazing surprise prize at the baby shower. All they have to do to get a raffle ticket is bring a package of diapers with them-and the more diapers they bring, the more raffle tickets they get! On the day of the shower, diapers will be crammed into every nook and cranny. Long after the party, the grateful parents will give silent thanks with each fresh diaper they use.

15. Baby Dec-a-Cake

You'll Need
* Mini plastic baby (safe for baking)
* Cupcake supplies

Party Time
Before the shower, bake a batch of cupcakes, dropping in a single miniature plastic baby in one random cup. At the shower, bring out the platter of undecorated cupcakes-without letting on that one is secretly 'pregnant'-and give all guests a supply of frosting, candies and baby decorations. After everyone has decorated their own unique cupcake, the mom-to-be chooses her favorite and the winner gets a prize. Then, just as guests are about to devour the baked goodies whole, let everyone know that whoever finds the baby is next in line to have her own!

16. Baby Shower Bingo

You'll Need
* BINGO templates
* Pens

How to Do It
* Print out enough BINGO templates for each guest.
* Fill in the registry items in the blank squares.

Party Time
Distribute one BINGO card and pen to each guest. As the mom-to-be opens the gifts, guests mark off the gifts on their cards. Whoever gets a complete horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row complete first is the winner.

17. Baby Stroller Olympics

You'll Need
* One baby doll
* One stroller
* Lawn chairs, logs, traffic cones, or other large objects that can be used as obstacles
* Two large sticks to serve as start and finish lines
* Stopwatch

How to Do It
* Map out an area of land. Use one stick to mark off the starting line, and another stick to mark off the finish line.
* Within that area, set up a few obstacles with the lawn chairs, logs, or other materials.

Party Time
The pregnant mom-to-be will sit this one out and serve as the judge. Each guest will start behind the starting line. The guest will hold the baby doll and stand next to the stroller. When the mom-to-be says "Go!" the guest will strap the baby into the stroller and push baby and stroller around the obstacles until they reach the finish line. A one-second penalty is added each time the stroller or guest hits an obstacle. The guest is disqualified if the baby falls out of the stroller (oops!). The guest with the speediest time wins.

18. "Baby" Music Mix

19. Just Ask Momma

A new mama always has questions -- but let's hope she'll find better answers than the ones that turn up in this hilarious party activity, suggested by Friedland.

You'll Need
* Note cards
* Pens

Party Time
Distribute note cards and pens to the guests. Tell each guest to write down a question a new mama would have, such as "How can I transition baby from my bed to his crib?" or "How do I take my baby's temperature?" Then, have everyone turn the card over and pass it to the guest on her left. Have each person write down the answer to her original question on the back of her new card. Take turns reading the question-and-answer combos out loud. ("How can I transition baby from my bed to his crib?" "Insert the thermometer about an inch into baby's bottom and watch the mercury climb.") The guest whose Q&A combination elicits the most laughter from the crowd wins.

20. Perfect Timing

See who has the gift of punctuality in this gift-opening game of chance -- and let guests, not just the guest of honor, take home a few goodies, too.

You'll Need
* A timer

Party Time
As the mom-to-be is opening gifts, set the timer for a short length of time (five to seven minutes). Whoever's gift she's opening when the timer goes off wins a prize. Start the timer again and keep the routine going until all the presents are opened.

21. Pregnant Twister

Let the guests play at being preggers -- but with a twist. They'll test their skill and flexibility -- while wearing a faux-pregnant belly -- during a, um, complicated game of Twister.

You'll Need
* One Twister game
* Wrist weights
* Pillows
* Fanny packs

Party Time
The pregnant mom-to-be will sit this one out and act as the judge. Give each guest a pillow, a fanny pack, and a set of wrist weights. Have each guest put the weights in their fanny pack and strap the pack and pillow around her waist. Play Twister with the extra weight! Last one standing is the winner.

22. Quilting Time

Baby and the mom-to-be will be scoring tons of awesome stuff, but much of it practical and predictable. Why not have guests add to that with something unexpected baby's first hand-made blankie during the present-opening time?

You'll Need
* Cotton squares of fabric in coordinating solid colors
* Fabric pens

Party Time
Distribute one square and several fabric pens to each guest. While the mom-to-be is opening gifts, have each guest decorate her square. After the shower, have the hostess (or the best seamstress in attendance) stitch the squares together to make a personal, impromptu quilt for baby.

23. Saving Time

Friedland recommends giving baby-to-be a present she'll one day cherish -- and have fun looking through, when she's older. A time capsule, created by mom's closest friends, will show her what life was like in the year she was born.

You'll Need
* A large Tupperware box or similar container (the host can decorate it in the shower's theme or colors)
* CDs, games, toys, newspaper clippings from each guest

How to Do It
Before the shower, tell each guest to bring an object that's representative of the current times: a popular CD, a newspaper clipping of a celeb's latest exploits, a bestselling book or children's book of the moment, a special coin issued by the government for that year.

Party Time
At the shower, have each guest present the item she brought and explain why she chose it. After each explanation, guests will place their items in the container. When all the items are in, have the host seal the container and present it to the mom-to-be as a gift.

24. Who's that Baby?

Everyone loves looking at baby photos, so let guests show off how cute they were as babes -- and see if people can guess who's who.

According to Adams, this is a perfect icebreaker at the beginning of a shower, so try it if you've got a group that doesn't know each other well.

You'll Need
* A baby photo of each guest (ask them to bring one in the invitation)
* Masking tape, or a clothesline with clips
* Pens and paper

How to Do It
* Collect the baby photos when the guests arrive.
* Hang up the photos and label each one with a number.

Party Time
Distribute paper and pens to the guests. Give the guests 10 minutes to match the baby photos to the guests. The person with the most correct matches is the winner.
