Top Bars for 20-Somethings in Muncie, Indiana
Great Places for Conversation and Good Drinks Around Ball State University
Sportsman's Lounge, 1806 E. Memorial Dr., Muncie, IN 47302, (765) 289-0701
If you don't know where Sportsman's is, you're sure to miss it because they have no sign. It's just a plain building and a small parking lot a few doors down from a liquor store. It is not the fanciest place to drink in Muncie, but it is one of the most enjoyable. Drink prices are always reasonable. While they have a skilled bar staff that can make even the most complicated of cocktails, most patrons drink beer along with the occasional shot. Wednesday is the best night to visit Sportsman if you are looking for good conversation and excitement because the bar has one of the best pool league team's in the area that competes nationally in Las Vegas just about every year. There is usually a large crowd of onlookers cheering them on.
Dill Street Bar & Grill, 421 N. Dill St., Muncie, IN 47303, (765) 288-3630
Dill Street is the most popular "college" bar for Ball State University. The two-floor establishment is coolly decorated with an industrial motif. It's mostly brick, concrete, and neon lights, along with huge picture windows that give decent views of the happenings of "the village" (the area where every Ball State College co-ed can be found). While their specials change constantly, the best time to check out the place is during penny pitcher night. It's usually elbow to elbow at the bar then, but you can always escape upstairs for some peace and a good game of billiards. Due to many underage students trying to drink at this popular college hot spot, cops regularly monitor everyone coming in and out of the bar, so be sure to walk in a straight line going to your car. Other than that, it's a great place to party. They even have live entertainment most weekends, especially when school is in session.
The Herot, 219 S. Walnut St., Muncie, IN 47305, (765) 287-0173
The Herot is the best bar in all of Muncie, Indiana. Period. Upon walking in to the bar, you notice it is fairly long narrow space with dramatic, high ceilings. The décor is that of a medieval pub than something modern. There are tapestries hanging on the walls and long tables with church-pew style benches. This place is for serious beer drinkers only. There are no pool tables, no frills. While the establishment does off hard liquor, the majority of people here drink beer only. When the beer menu is first presented to you, it is rather daunting. On your first visit, a consultation with the bartender is definitely a good idea. The menu is actually a three-ring binder filled with an extensive beer selection. From Belgian wheat ales to rare domestic micro-brews, if you've heard of it, chances are the Herot probably has it. Their selection even includes a number of domestic and imports on tap for draft lovers. The range of people I've seen in the Herot varies just as widely as the beer selection, so surely there is someone to have a lively conversation with while you enjoy your brew. Although it is small, sometimes the Herot does features musical acts, so be sure to call and check their schedule.
