Top Beach Snack Ideas for This Summer

Zac Linzmeier
With summer rapidly approaching more and more of us are going to start our weekend treks out to the beach. Living just a block from the sand and ocean I try to find at least a few minutes a day to make my way down by the seaside. One of my biggest issues is getting hungry and not wanting to leave my spot to fix a quick snack. This article will outline a few of my top beach snack ideas that I'll surely be preparing over the course of this summer.

Trail Mix

Trail mix is a classic but a favorite of mine. You can easily get your own trail mix at Costco but there is sure to be a kid who will pick out all of the M&Ms and another whom will throw the raisins attracting pesky seagulls. I prefer to prepare my own trail mix. My recipe for a great trail mix is equal parts of the following:

Cashews (some people prefer peanuts)

Peanut butter M&Ms

Pretzels (I personally prefer mini pretzels as opposed to sticks or full sized ones)

Flax seeds (these are truly great for you and add a little something to the mix)

Dried apricots (any dried fruit will do fine but I prefer these to raisins)

Simply stir these ingredients together and you've got a great snack for munching on at the beach to keep your stomach from growling.

Sandwiches

Sandwiches are always a favorite of mine, even when I'm around the house or at a restaurant. The one thing you have to keep in mind is that a sandwich can be messy and go soggy if left in a cooler or melt if left out. Because of this I find that a simple sandwich such as peanut butter and jelly fares best on a day to the beach.

Quick Snacks

I also usually tend to pack a few quick snacks that are great for an energy boost after a long day splashing in waves and soaking up sun rays. I try to get something with a good dab of protein such as string cheese (be sure to keep it in your cooler unless you want a messy gooey blob) and beef jerky. A homemade dip of beans, cheese and salsa in a Tupperware container along with some tortilla chips can also go along way if you are sand conscious.

These are my favorite beach day snacks and they are sure to please your palette while appeasing your stomach next time you head to the coast.
