Top Burger Spots in Georgia

So You Wanna Know Where's the BEEF?

Karen Francis
I know there is a great Health conscience movement going on in the world today, but there is something about a great burger that just throws caution to the wind. There have been times that I've fasted for 40 days and ate vegetables, broth and juices, but at the end of the fasting I would always crave a great burger or steak. I've read that sometimes people have these cravings based on their blood type, so perhaps I should look into that a little more.

Today, I want to share with you 3 of my favorite spots in Georgia to enjoy a nice, juicy burger. Two of the spots are local or regional while the other is on it's way to becoming national, so I'll start with Five Guys burgers. I recall the first time I tasted a Five Guys burger. I was in burger heaven! I typically get the single which comes with one burger instead of two. I always get mine with everything which includes mustard, mayonnaise, mushrooms, onions, peppers, cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes. Can you see my mouth watering even now? Five Guys cooks their burgers and fries in peanut oil, so that just gives it a wonderful flavor that like nothing I've ever tasted in a burger before. My favorite Five Guys is located at 798 Lawrenceville Suwanee Road inside the Cross Creek Center.

My next pick would have to be my childhood burger spot called What-A-Burger. I grew up in the Bronx, New York, but we would vacation with family in Virginia often and that's where I first had the pleasure of tasting a What-A-Burger! I can remember it like it was yesterday. That burger was so large that it barely would fit on the bun. I use to get mine with extra pickles, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I am not sure how they were prepared, but it was at that time, the BEST burger I had every tasted. So much so, that when my family moved back to Virginia when I was 17, I would often look for that little burger spot in Petersburg, Virginia, however, it was no longer there. I understand that What-A-Burger is now here in Georgia right off of Satellite Blvd. If you are in the area, stop immediately and enjoy a wonderful burger.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try a burger at The Georgia Diner located in Duluth, Georgia at 1655 Pleasant Hill Road. The Diner is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They serve just about anything you can think of, including a pretty hearty burger. You can have this burger cooked anyway you like and add anything to it. Some people enjoy their burger with cheese, while others like a little bacon and then there are people like me that sometimes like my burger with fries on top. If you've never tried it, you simply must.

So those are my picks today: Five Guys, What-A-Burger and The Georgia Diner. You can enjoy these burgers for as little as $4.00 or fully dressed for less than $6.00. Enjoy your next burger and remember eat responsibly!
