If you want to insure a future income you need to consider careers that will always be needed in great numbers. Careers people will find the money for the services offered. Careers they will spend their hard earned and limited funds to get. Choose wisely for your own future and you will be able to live better than most.
The Medical Field.
1. Nursing. There will always be a call for nursing on every level. It can not be outsourced and you will always earn for the services you provide. Even doctors will suffer if patients cannot pay and there is no insurance companies left. Get a full nursing degree for highest income in the field. Then level down for shorter term study with Vocational Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistance.
2. Elderly Care. The baby boomers of the great earning times are now facing financial ruin every day. Jobs cut before retirement at a time when they are not ready to begin a new career in a society that is too technologically advanced for many. As they have to work harder to provide for themselves and family they will also age faster. When the time comes to stop and extreme medical limits their abilities they will not be able to afford care facilities. So elderly care within the home will become the standard. They will only be able to afford so many hours of the day or week for visiting assistance. With a cliental of three to five people this is a good and stable income.
Computer.
1. Forget about being a programmer or even an I.T. Tech. There is so much outsourcing in this field you will not get enough work to feed yourself each day. In the computer industry you are best prepared as a networking specialist. This is a service that can only be provided on site! It is a hands on job and computers are going to stay as long as we have power and our satellites.
2. Computer training. Many people are learning computers from birth on, but there will still be many that will need some tutoring help in specialized areas or just knowing how to look through the internet and how to set blocks into place.
Entertainment Service.
1. Tavern Owner. No matter how bad things get many, many people still turn to alcohol for their last penny security blanket. It is not an answer to their problems, but it is an answer to yours. If it flows free with low prices you will make a profit. Much of the profit will come from tips. Provide a basic food to go with it like popcorn, chips and salsa or chili for further income.
2. Lounge Singer. While the tavern owner may not be willing to pay much for your service you can offer to work for a percentage of the drinks and tips only. If you can appeal to the drinkers hard times they will be more likely to tip. Work late, because as they drink more they become much looser with the change they have left. Mix with the patrons and find out what makes them cry or laugh and make your music personal to them.
Construction.
1. This is a great industry for the future if you are good! Get your contractors license and do a good job. There are a lot of contractors that do poor work just to get it over with and collect the pay, but if you provide good service and above skilled work you will collect a following. This is a job that will be needed for small homes, businesses and many repairs.
Death.
1. Undertaker. This may seem like a job no one would want to do, but it will never end. There will always be a need for preparation of the body and someone to control the service for those who cannot. It always pays and most of your customers will not complain. Their families will always need services and someone understanding so combine an education in basic counseling.
Transportation.
1. Mechanic. As gas prices climb people will not be as likely to sale an older car and just pick up a new one. The older ones are paid for and will eventually need repairs of many kinds. If you can keep a basic supply of auto parts and provide a mobile service you will never be out of work.
2. Inexpensive Transportation.
The days of large cars and RV's are about gone. Try to combine choices in small cars, motorcycles, scooters, bicycles and small engines for bicycles. This way you are giving a choice and are not limiting your own income to one section of the economy. The smaller, gas saving transportations will become more popular and needed by everyone.
In conclusion think about what you like to do and how to educate yourself now before it's too late. Check into your adult education program or hook up to a mentor and learn as much as you can while there is still time. With preparation you will be able to provide a comfortable lifestyle for yourself and your family.
