Top Charities in the U.S

Should the boss of American Cancer Society make $1.3 Million per year? I currently make charitable donations to about 5 of my favorite charities. The ones that I really want to help out and make a difference for those in need. Most of them my family or I can relate to in some sort of way. Either someone I know was stricken with an illness and could use some help or I have experienced a tradgedy that has taught me a few lessons. Anyways, I make about 3 donations a year for these 5 charities. It's not a lot of donations but, atleast I care enough and make an effort.

I believe giving to a charity is very important for everyone to give what they can to the ones that mean something special to them. Charities are definitely needed and they are all a blessing that everyone will benefit from somehow someway in their lifetime.

The problem I've read about in a forbes.com article told by William P. Barrett is charities spend too much on marketing, mailings and boss's salaries. Out of the five charities I'm associated with I get atleast five please donate cards a month and it really is over doing it with the mailings. That adds up to probably about receiving about 60 please donate mailings a year.

It makes me wonder how much of people's donations actually go to the needy instead of advertising, mailings and boss's salaries. According to William P. Barrett at Forbes, The boss of American Cancer Society John Seffrin makes $1.3 million a year. The boss of United Way Brian Gallagher, earns $715,000 a year. Even a priest and President of Catholic Charities, Larry Snyder, makes $155,000 a year.

If your going to donate your time and work for a charity, I don't think you should be making more money than it takes people 30 or 40 years to make. Whatever happened to people doing stuff for others because they wanted to and got personal gratification from it. The people that give their precious time, hard earned money and dedication and receive nothing in return are what we need more of in the world.
