Top Chef is a Great Show to Watch

Bravo's Top Chef is one of my favorite shows on television. I started watching a few seasons ago when it was in Chicago. I am thoroughly enjoying watching Top Chef: Just Desserts. I have become addicted to this show probably because the chefs make cooking and serving food look so fascinating. And even more so, I'm interested because I want to become a great cook, and watching this show inspires me to cook and learn how to become a fabulous cook for my family.

Another part of the appeal are the judges. I love watching the judges reaction to the dishes, especially after seeing the chefs go through the process of brainstorming a dish, preparing it, and their comments on how they feel their dish tastes. The host, Padma Lakshmi, is a beautiful, engaging, and informed host. Only recently did I see season 1 of Top Chef with Katie Lee Joel as the host. After watching I clearly saw why she was no longer the host of the show. Padma does a great job of hosting the show. She's not just a beautiful host and judge, she actually knows what she's talking about.

Top Chef is not just about good food and beautiful presentation, it's also entertaining to see how the chefs interact with one another, and the catfights that occur. When the chefs face elimination I must admit that I get extremely nervous, as if I'm a chef awaiting to be booted from the competition.

All in all, I stay tuned in to the show, because of the chefs' passion for food, and how they express it. As a budding cook who struggles often with finding the inspiration to cook a fabulous meal, this show ignites a passion inside of me to cook well for my family. Even if it takes a long time to prepare an excellent dish, it's worth it when you see the pleasing faces of your family as they partake of your food. With Top Chef I've also learned of foods that I hadn't heard of before like chutney. The chefs kept throwing that word around, and I was like, "What is chutney?" I now know that it's a sweet and sour condiment that usually consists of crushed fruits and vinegar along with other spices.

If you're a young wife who is trying to bone up on her cooking skills, and you need some extra motivation to create great tasting meals for your family, tune in to Top Chef. It's a show for anybody who loves to cook, or for those who are ambivalent about cooking. Either way, you will walk away from the show ready to go to the kitchen and cook up something tasty. Or, learn how to.
