Top Chef Winner Michael Voltaggio Earns Family Bragging Rights

Out-Cooking His Brother & Southern-Fried Charm Finds Michael Voltaggio the Newest Top Chef Winner

The season 6 Top Chef winner is Michael Voltaggio. Michael out-cooked fan favorite Kevin Gillespie and brother Bryan Voltaggio, in the Top Chef season finale. While the victory, prizes and publicity may be sweet, Michael also earned the much sought after Voltaggio family bragging rights.

Throughout season 6 of Top Chef, both Voltaggio brothers made it clear that they were each other's main competition. This wasn't just do to their superior cooking skills, but also a mostly friendly sibling rivalry. In the end, Michael's modern cuisine and delightfully risky flavors topped Bryan's beautifully made classic fare. Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio, at age 30, is the younger of the two siblings by three years. That has to make his victory even more precious and Bryan Voltaggio's loss a little more humiliating.

While Michael Voltiaggo never took finalist and third place winner Kevin Gillespie seriously, the judges often raved about his simple, well-cooked food. Kevin's Southern Fried Chicken, Liquid Squash Casserole and Tomato went over extremely well in the first round of the Top Chef finale. Tough matsutake mushrooms in round two, round three's underwhelming and tough pork belly, and the desert round's unimaginative banana concoction kept him from winning Top Chef.

Michael Voltaggio's older sibling, Bryan, started out weak in the Top Chef finale.

According to his Bravo Top Chef Bio Michael Voltaggio's hometown is Fredrick, Maryland and has been cooking since the age of 15. Michael is no stranger to moving and cooking around the country. He has practiced his craft at The Dining Room, in the Naples, FL Ritz Carlton. Michael currently resides in Los Angeles, where he is the Chef de Cuisine at The Dining Room, at the Langham Huntington Hotel and Spa.

Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio is no stranger to culinary awards. As Chef de Cuisine in Naples, Michael has won the AAA 5 Diamond Award and the Mobil Award. At Charlie Palmer's Dry Creek Kitchen, in California, Michael won the Michelin Star.

As the Top Chef winner, Michael Voltaggio is the recipient of $225,000 in cash and prizes. He will also receive a feature in Food and Wine Magazine and a showcase at the Food & Wine Classic, in Aspen, Colorado.

For Michael & Bryan it was purely a competition. Kevin put his heart and soul into his food and I would much rather eat Kevin's food than the egotistical Michael. Bryan's ego was a little more subdued but not much.

I had a feeling one of the brothers would end up winning.
