Top Christmas Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls

Rebecca Green
Sometimes, choosing the best gifts that 6 year old girls can seem downright daunting. What is she getting too old for? What is she too young to get still? What are the latest fads for young girls? Well, rest assured. As a parent of a 6 year old girl, I know what she wants, as well as what many of her friends are yearning for on Christmas. Below I'll give a list of several hot ideas for 6 year old girls.

Ponyville

For those who are unfamiliar with ponyville, think of it as a shrunk down version of My Little Pony without the worries of snarled hair or lost hair brushes. They're solid ponies with a tiny hole in one foot to snap them into holders on various playsets. Let me tell you, there are all sorts of playset sizes. You have the mini's which are technically supposed to go with the bigger playsets but do fine on their own. For example, one mini playset comes with ice creams, a hat, ice cream cart and a pet to go atop the carts umbrella, along with a pony of course. Then you have the bigger playsets which are houses or parlors that your child can set up furniture in and have parties in - like one of the latest ponyville sets being a birthday cake skate party where the skating rink is in the shape of a birthday cake.

These sets can vary in price, however, the cheapest I've found them are $4 for the mini sets and between $14 and $23 for the larger playsets. They're bright, intricately detailed but remember that they do have small pieces so be sure that the little girl who may get these knows that she can't leave them around, put them in her mouth or play with animals that may chew or eat the play pieces.

Barbie Winged Dolls and Princesses

Let's face it. Barbie has always been the rage among girls of various ages for over 20 years. While some people frown upon these fashion dolls, let's just keep in mind they're dolls and allow children to use their imaginations. Most of the little girls I know have scooted away from the more traditional Barbie, such as beach barbie or even ballerina barbie. It just seems that they aren't the big trend in these designer dolls nowadays. With the release of Barbie's DVD Mariposa, many girls began to flock towards these winged barbies - allowing them to expand their play regions as well as imaginations.

With the recent release of Barbie and the Diamond Castle, we returned to the fold of princesses, however, the premise behind these new dolls are friendship. Which, let's face it. Friends are important to all, not just little girls. There are so many toys already available for the newest barbies - the two main girls which when hands are pressed together sing. There are secondary characters like the muses which come with necklaces for your girls to wear. The movie shares the true meaning of friendship, which is perfect for any little girl if you can't decide on which dolls to purchase.

Easy Bakes and Cupcakes!

Just as little girls get too big for their 2-5 year old toy kitchens, in comes the easy bake ovens and cupcake makers!

For years, as some of you readers know, easy bake ovens have given little girls the feeling of pride in making something tasty all for theirselves with only minimal help from mom or dad. The oven hasn't changed much over the years. You still buy the special mixes in bags or boxes for these makers, add water, pop it in the oven and wait out the time. Of course, to a child the time seems to drag much like a grown up making bigger cakes, cookies and brownies. These ovens have been a very memorable part of childhood for many and will continue to do so for years to come.

For those who don't want the oven, there's even a cupcake maker and decorator. What's interesting about these is that it takes only 30 seconds to make a cupcake with it. The fun comes with the decorator, which allows girls (or boys, for that matter!) to decorate their cupcakes in a fancier way than most grown ups get to do. These treats not only give girls the ideas that baking stuff can be fun, but they get a delicious reward at the end. What's better is that you can purchase cupcake carriers for the maker separately so they can take a goody to grandma or grandpa - or even take one to school as a special treat at lunch!

While these are only a few of countless choices of toys out there, these ideas seem to be hotspots for most of the 6 year old crowd I'm around. Just remember that when shopping this holiday season to look up any recall information before making purchases. While some toys may seem safe, they could be dangerous. After all, we all want the holidays to be a joyous time. Happy shopping!
