An Office Party Isn't a Party Without Games

Moe
Another year, another office Christmas party. However, this year make the decision to come up with new games to add along with the favorite traditional games.

Entertainment and games can be tricky with a large office, however, a good technique is to take popular board games and make them your own. This will allow you to tailor your games based on your audience, and might also cut down on expenses by making the game pieces your self.

The top games include

Mad Gab - this is a great way to involve crowd participation and to generate laughter. This game uses a string of seemingly nonsense words that, when pronounced in the proper way, can make a new phrase. For example; "Ask Rude Arrive Her" becomes "A Screwdriver." This game can be easily played by creating your own nonsense words, (be creative use entertainment or work related terminology), and writing them on a 3x5 card, then place duplicate cards at each table/team. The first table/team to utter out the correct sentences wins a prize.

Bingo- but not the ordinary black /white board game bingo. Today's bingo is a bit more interactive and once again you can alter the game to save on money. For starters make your own board, or go online and print out a theme board. Also, make your own call sheet, and instead of numbers you can use words or even pictures if you have the time. Therefore, when playing the game instead of the audience hearing B-6 ,I-15, it can be B- Happy, I - Love You. In addition, the winner doesn't always have to be the first one with their board covered horizontally. You can also pre-determined the pattern to be a letter T, or even a square. If you're in an office setting you can also make a master board on a white board /chalk board and write down the clues as the game progresses, this will allow players to have something to refer to, without slowing up the game by having the conductor repeating the clues.

Flash mob - originally describing a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, who do something unusual for a brief period of time, then quickly disperse. (See clip)

However, this can also be a great entertainment game for the office with a little planning. Every year, everyone expects some entertainment whether it's pulling out the karaoke machine, or a peer pressured talent show. However, with flash mobbing, nobody will be expecting the performance and everybody feels part of the show. To do this coordinate a team, and also include the reserved co-workers that nobody would expect to flash mob. Next come up with a song and choreography. The choreography doesn't have to be anything elaborate, depending on the song you can walk around like zombies or go around giving hugs. The flash mob should start with one person, and then the other group members join in.

Usually the best part of working in an office is the holiday parties. If you are planning an office party, please remember people love winning prizes, have short attention spans, and want to be entertained. It is always a good idea to ensure everybody at the party gets a gift, so in addition to game prizes, have individual door prizes, so everyone can leave happy.
