Boo Papi! Castro Zombies to Hialeah Chongas

South Florida is full of fun and interesting characters. Want to try a new Halloween costume with a Miami spin? Then try one of these fun Halloween costumes.

Zombie Castro Halloween Costume
Every Cuban-American knows that Fidel Castro died a few years ago and all that is left is his body double occasionally making lame television appearances waving his arms and generally looking half-dead while his brother Raul attempts to rule the island nation. To achieve the look of el Jefe, you need to paint your skin a sallow yellow-green. Add plenty of wrinkles and a long beard. Buy a uniform at the local army/navy (check out pics to make sure that you match up to his regular uniform). Add an authentic Cuban cigar and be sure to march around, occasionally waving your arms to show that you are indeed very much undead.

Hot Halloween Hialeah Chongas
If you do not know what a Hialeah Chonga is, you need to check out the local Hialeah video, "Chongalicious" before you attempt this not-so-hot look. Essentially you need to dress up in tight, super tight, clothes, slick back your hair with a glue stick, wear the biggest earrings humanly possible, and wear black lipliner instead of lipstick. The Chonga Girls do a stupendous job in the video not only demonstrating the look, but giving some helpful advice on where to purchase and obtain a true Chonga look. Be sure to hook up with your hot Miami papi on Halloween night in your hottest Chonga duds.

Calle Ocho Mango Peddler Halloween Costume
Living in southwest Miami for several years, I was always amazed at the wide variety of peddlers selling their wares in the middle of pretty scary Miami traffic on Tamiami. The look is pretty basic. Just wear some comfortable jeans and an old shirt and a hat. Be sure to sell authentic wares like mangos, peeled oranges in a bag, water bottles, and even avocados. If you happen to own a wagon that you can load up with mangos, plantains, avocados, etc., then you can try to make a bundle hanging out right outside the Halloween bash while your friends party inside.

Lincoln Road Performance Artist Halloween Costume
I will never forget her - a Miami performance artist painted white from head-to-toe and covered in plaster. She stood absolutely still for about an hour, while passers-by dropped change into an open container. If you want to achieve this look, paint your skin white and use white powder for your hair. Paint your pants and shirt white with paint. Be sure you do not plan to wear this outfit every again. Add a pair of white sneakers. Be sure to have a container or hat for spare change. Show up at your Halloween party, put the container on the floor, and attempt to stand perfectly still for at least ten to fifteen minutes at a time before changing poses.
