What's better than homemade ice cream? Not a lot. Especially on a typical hot sunny day in Denver. Sure, you can head to McDonald's for cheap soft serve or Dairy Queen for a slightly more upper class sundae, but why would you? It's the same price as the high quality homemade ice cream at Denver's best homemade ice cream shops. Denver, are you ready to say goodbye to soft serve and hello to delectable goodness?
First on my list, as promised, is Sweet Action. My son highly recommends this place and he knows his ice cream. Sweet Action has some extraordinary flavors (salted butterscotch, cinnamon bun, baklava and many many more) blended into the sweetest, creamiest homemade ice cream ever. I hope my boyfriend knows he's taking me to get some Sweet Action this weekend.
Sweet Action also serves absolutely sinful sorbet and other ice cream store favorites. There's nothing typical about this homemade ice cream shop. Just check out the reviews if you don't believe me. They've even successfully converted some ice cream nay-sayers. Sweet Action prices are family friendly. Denver kids love this place. It has all their fantasy flavors and then some.

52 South Broadway, Denver

Hold onto your hats, Denver, Glacier Ice Cream is coming to Northglenn. We've made special trips to Boulder, Louisville, and Longmont for this ice cream. Why? Well, it's mostly the gelato. It's the flavors too. Or maybe it's the great atmosphere. Let's face it, Sweet Action has some serious competition here. Even Glacier's reviews are to die for.
The main draw of Glacier Ice Cream is the fresh peach sorbet. Did I mention the gelato? You can also look forward to fresh fruit and nut mixers, heady spices, and all natural ingredients in their homemade creations. They have over 800 flavor combinations to date. That doesn't stop them from coming up with more. Your kids won't know what to do with all those sugar-plum fantasies dancing in their heads.
Locations:
3133 28th St., Boulder
4760 Baseline Road, Boulder
1350 College Avenue, Boulder

Bonnie Brae Ice Cream will always be a traditional family favorite. I worked in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood when my youngest was in elementary school. When she visited my job, she always asked for Bonnie Brae Ice Cream. There's nothing fancy about this shop. Just good old fashioned homemade ice cream. We love their storefront, decor and hand written menu. It brings us back to the old soda fountain days. We're not the only ones who love this shop. Check the reviews out.
Bonnie Brae Ice Cream Store adds a little love to every batch. Like the other two shops I've highlighted, they make their ice cream from scratch right in their shop. Bonnie Brae also offers hand rolled waffle cones. I will attest to their deliciousness. Even though I'm watching my weight, I rarely pass them up. Kids can get an itty bitty cone for a little over a dollar if Mom's on a budget or their tummy's too little for the grown-up version.
Location:
799 S. University Boulevard, Denver
Hours:
Sunday - Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m to 10:00 p.m.
