Top Denver Public Pools with Water Slides

Jaipi Sixbear
Denver public pools with water slides are almost a necessity once that western summer sun starts beating down. We are the Mile High City, after all. That means we're a mile closer to the sun than those at sea level. Plus we have more sunny days than just about any other place in the country. My family's not really into cautious toe dipping. Water slide splashdown makes cooling off fun and efficient. It's the ultimate in summer entertainment. Slip on a suit and join us at one of these awesome Denver public pools this summer.

Water World at 88th and Pecos has something for every member of the family. It's open from 10 a.m. To 6 p.m. all summer long. The attractions do justify the all day price of $30.99 (kids under 40 inches) or $35.99 (adults and children over 40 inches). Seniors (over 60) catch a break at just $6.99. Those entering mid-day can look forward to discount pricing (nearly half off) Hyland Hills or Westminster residents get an even deeper discount. Water World's attractions (too numerous to list) vary from mild to wild.

Splash Aquatic Park at 3151 Illinois Street in Golden has a twist for beach lovers. Bring your sand toys for castle building. This budget friendly public pool boasts admission prices of $3.50 (tots) to $8.00 (adults) for Jefferson County residents. Don't live in Jefferson County? Move. Just kidding. You'll still enjoy prices from $4.00 to $9.00.

Splash Aquatic Park features:
*sandy "beach"
*two large thrill seeker water slides
*gentler slides and fountains for the younger set.
*water play jungle gym

The Wheat Ridge Recreation Center at 4005 Kipling has a fabulous public pool area with a giant water slide. My favorite features of this pool are the whirlpool and sauna. You can alternatively heat up and then cool back off in the pool. Non-residents of Wheat Ridge pay just $4.50 (children) to $6.50 (adults). Pool hours vary according to scheduled private usage.

Wheat Ridge Rec Center Pool features:
*eight lane competition sized pool
* diving well
*casual pool with a lazy river
*huge 120 foot tall water slide
*whirlpool spa
*sauna

Broomfield Bay Aquatic Park at 250 Lamar St., Broomfield has a Friday family night from 4-8 p.m.

In September, look forward to fishing (stocked) and a dog daze event. Lessons are held in the evenings. There's also a summer aerobics program. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. To 6 p.m. all other days of the week. Fees range from 4-6 dollars depending on age and residency.

Broomfield Bay features:
*2 serpentine water slides
*an inner-tube slide
*tot pool with small slides and a water fountain
*gradual (sloped) entry leisure pool
*lawn area
*covered tables
*concession stand
