Top Fantasy Baseball Picks for 2010

Aaron Johnson
Plan your fantasy draft accordingly:

1. 1B Albert Pujols, StL - No questions here. The St. Louis Cardinals' all-star looks to continue his success. This writer predicts a possible forty homerun, twenty stolen base season, along with a .320 batting average. An all around amazing player, Albert Pujols should go first in most competitive leagues.

2. 3B Alex Rodriguez, NYY - Despite the tarnish that has recently colored this athlete's stellar career, the Yankees' third baseman, is still one of the best. He should sport similar number to Pujols if he, as he claims, doesn't need steroids to put up the numbers he has put up.

3. SS Hanley Ramirez, Fla - The Florida Marlins shortstop has slowly but surely solidified his position as one of the best in the league. This writer could see him going 30-30, and fighting Pujols for the batting title with an average of somewhere around .340.

4. 3B Chase Utley, Phi - Don't fret if you don't get the players above Utley. If he's still in the draft in the 4th-7th rounds, pick him up in a heartbeat, as stated on ESPN, he is the best value of the first round of the draft for the simple fact that, after Utley, there is a huge drop in second basemen.

5. OF Matt Kemp, LAD - The highest player outside the infield on this list, look for Matt Kemp to have an outstanding year. This writer sees him finally breaching that .300 mark for the first time as a starter and possibly pulling out a 25-40 season.

6. OF Ryan Braun, Mil - Though his homeruns may have fallen last year, his average has improved substantially. This year look for him to find that even ground, hitting anywhere from 35-40 homeruns, maintaining roughly a .315 average and hopefully repeating last year's 20 stolen bases performance.

7. OF Carl Crawford, TB - Arguably the fastest man in baseball, expect his continued dominance of the base paths in 2010. He'll get approximately 50-55 stolen bases, pleasantly surprising if he gets more. He'll maintain his .300 average and very high on base percentage as evidenced by his patient at the plate. Homerun-wise, don't expect much, maybe ten.

8. OF Miguel Cabrera, TB - Hopefully able to maintain his 30-35 homeruns and 100 RBIs, Miguel Cabrera is the perpetual old faithful of baseball, though only __ years of age, you can always expect decent numbers from this first baseman.

9. 1B Prince Fielder, Mil - One of the biggest powerhouses in the game right now, Prince Fielder is expected to top it off at fifty homeruns this year. Even sporting a decent average, as opposed to previous "all-about-the-power" players, expect him to go in the first round of your draft.

10. 3B David Wright, NYM - Though some may argue he doesn't belong with the rest of these greats, a fully healthy Wright should steal around 30 bases and maintain around a .310 average. Last season's less than stellar performance, hampered slightly by his missing of about 20 games, should be improved upon greatly this season.

Not a b-ball follower. Even though I'm a Bronx boy, I always root for the underdog: Go Mets! And I just hope A-Rod can rise above his steroid use scandal. Many of my friends who are baseball fans feel that with his stats, he's a powerhouse destined for the hall of fame.
