Top Father's Day Gifts for 2009

Stephanie Michael
Father's day is June 21st and its time to start thinking of ways to show your love. Times are tough and it's important to stay within your budget but you have to do something for dear old dad. Sure, you can go for the standard tie or barbeque utensils set but why not try to be a little more creative? Here are some fun ideas for Father's day, some are more reasonable priced than others.

Kindle

For the dad who loves to read the Kindle is the perfect gift. Ranging in price from $275 for older models to $359 for the newest; the Kindle is an electronic library in a package weighing less than most paper back books. Kindle has a store with over 285,000 books to choose from and most books are $9.99 or less. When you find a title you want all you need to do is purchase it and it automatically downloads to your device. The book shows up on the screen with the kind of clarity you would expect from the printed version. Each Kindle will hold about 1500 books and the newer versions have a four day battery life. Your dad will enjoy countless hours of enjoyment from his Kindle.

Gift Cards to his favorite store

Gift cards aren't just for the ladies. Guys shop too just at different stores. Consider a gift card form the Home Depot or Lowes to assist with projects he wants to complete during the summer. If you know your dad shops at a particular retailer on a regular basis get him a gift card for that store. Another idea is to get him a gift card for a restaurant so he can enjoy a nice evening out without having to worry about the bill. Be creative and think about what your father would appreciate most.

Nintendo DS and Brain Age games

It's important for everyone to learn new things to excursive and maintain brain function but it's especially important as we get older. Help keep Dad sharp by getting him a Nintendo DS and a learning game such as the brain age series. This is something that he would probably never think to get himself but once he gets used to the technology he'll be having a blast and exercising his grey matter. Often people see the handheld gaming systems as meant for kids but they can really be fun for the whole family.

A home cooked meal

If your mother's around I'm sure she'll appreciate this gift just as much as dad will and if she isn't I'm sure he would love to have someone come in to take over dinner responsibilities, even if just for one night. Make dad his favorite meal or maybe something he's never tried before that you think he will enjoy. You can make it ahead of time at your place to bring over and serve, you can have him over for dinner with your whole family, or you can gather the ingredients and bring them over to your dad's house for a kind of "in home chef" feeling. Be creative with the presentation and consider lunch and breakfast as options as well. Who says breakfast in bed is only for mother's day?

Coupon book

Remember when you were younger and you made your parents a coupon book for free hugs or chores around the house? Make an adult version by offering to cover his yard work chores or perhaps by adding in some personal activities you think he would enjoy. A day at the lake or perhaps a camping trip for just the two of you would be fun, especially if you're out of the house and don't get to visit as often as you'd like. Pick activities that you know would be fun or helpful to your dad. Use your computer to type up the coupons and add pictures if you'd like. Then print them out and tie them together with a nice ribbon. The gift itself will bring back memories of the past and the fun activities will help build memories for the future.
