Top Female Skateboarders Come to Denver

Women's Action Sports Event Combined with Fashion Show

Some of the top female skateboarders in the world are in Denver this week for the Core Action Sports Winter Fashion Flurry, along with many of the top names in other women's action sports, supporting breast cancer and women's action sport organizations and providing a showcase of style and female athletic talent.

"Skateboarding Icon Cara-Beth Burnside and Champion Mimi Knoop," says the news release, will be skating at the event, demonstrating skills that just won them second and third place at the X-Games Women's Vert Skateboarding in August, and showing the world that women are making major breakthroughs in this male-dominated sport. Core Action Sports is host to the event, and also promoter of five women's action sports areas on their website.

"C. B." Burnside, says the release, is a top-winning, pioneering competitor in women's skateboarding, and a role model for girls everywhere. The event tonight at Mile High Station includes a runway fashion show, athlete appearances, live music, entertainment, a silent auction to benefit breast cancer, and a "who's who of women's action sports, with 1,000 attendees expected."

The women will demonstrate their skateboarding skills at 7pm, followed by the fashion show, and music will be by "local woman-fronted indie band" Dressy Bessy. Several action sports organizations will also receive donations from the event. Fashion lines include "cutting-edge brands such as Nikita, Vans, DNA, FEW, Betty Rides and Roxy" and others, the release notes.

CoreActionSports.com, the sponsor of the event, combines fashion with action by offering selections from 45 lines to promote the next wave in attire for the five target sports to which they market: skiing, snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding and wakeboarding, which they note are seeing explosive growth among women and girls. They also provide inspiration and networking, including a forum for enthusiasts to exchange thoughts and ideas, and listings of events and key athletes' bios.

Tickets are $20 at coreactionsports.com, and $30 at the door. Local sponsors including radio stations, alternative media, and energy foods contributed to the event. Core Action Sports is located in Denver, a youthful city which is a key location for active and mountain sports and Internet business. Their website states: "Core Action Sports is committed to transforming the landscape of action sports for women and girls around the world", and they note their commitment to style in the context of action sports - a contrast to some of the "grunge" and other male style concepts action sports have exhibited!
