Did you know that Microsoft, MTV, Hewlett Packard, Disney, IBM, and Proctor & Gamble all saw their businesses sour during economic woes? Repo men aren't the only ones seeing a boom in business during this recession, so are some tech companies.

TiEcon, an annual web conference will celebrate entrepreneurs making strides in technology. Their upcoming two day web expo will highlight the nets top 50 start ups, taking place at the Santa Clara Convention Center, May 15-16.

Contestants range from "Consumer Web, Internet Infrastructure, Clean tech, Wireless, and Software start ups. TiE judges selected 150 finalists from over 1200 nominees of emerging start up companies" according to TiE.

TheFind.com is one of the start ups nominated for the TiE award in the Consumer Web segment. This online shopping search engine is only in its second year of business and on average collects thirty million page views per month.

The site offers a shopping search tool that crawls the web for whatever you need that is available online, from cocktail dresses to diapers. It also features a local store-to-store shopping tool, attracting green conscious shoppers.

Given the state of the economy and the push toward going green, the site is used to consolidate everyday shopping - cutting out unnecessary trips to multiple shops like department stores, specialty stores and drugstores. Studies show their biggest market is stay at home moms.
