Top Five 2010 Fantasy Baseball Left Fielders

While left field is typically more of a power position, in 2010 fantasy baseball left field will be a great speed position as well. With Jacoby Ellsbury moving from center to left field and Carl Crawford already in left, the position has two of the top three base-stealers in the Major Leagues. They will join power threats like Ryan Braun and Adam Dunn to make left field one of the strongest positions in 2010 fantasy baseball.

5. Matt Holliday, St. Louis Cardinals

After a midseason trade from the A's to the Cardinals, Matt Holliday turned his season around and started putting up All-Star numbers again. He hit a pedestrian .286 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 93 games with Oakland, but tallied a .353 average, 13 home runs, and 55 RBI in 63 games in St. Louis. Holliday is a safe bet for 25 to 30 home runs, about 100 RBI, and ten to 15 stolen bases a year.

4. Jacoby Ellsbury, Boston Red Sox

Baseball's new stolen base dynamo is Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury. In 2009, Ellsbury stole a Major League leading 70 stolen bases with a success rate of 85 percent. He had his first full season hitting over .300 and scored 94 runs mostly from the top of Boston's lineup. Ellsbury is not a major power threat, hitting 8 home runs and driving in 60 RBI in 2009. As Ellsbury enters his third season, he is moving from center field to left, making him a top 2010 fantasy baseball left fielder.

3. Carl Crawford, Tampa Bay Rays

Carl Crawford is another speedster left fielder capable of carrying a fantasy baseball team's stolen base load. Crawford stole a career high 60 bases in 2009 and is generally reliable for around 50. Crawford adds a bit more power than Ellsbury as he hit 15 home runs in 2009 and has hit double digits in each of his last five full seasons. Crawford is usually a safe bet to hit .300 and score 90-plus runs per year, which added to his stolen bases make him a top 2010 fantasy baseball left fielder.

2. Adam Dunn, Washington Nationals

No matter where he goes, Adam Dunn continues to be a legitimate 40 home run 100-plus RBI threat. Dunn hit 38 home runs with 105 RBI in his first season with the Nationals, scoring 81 runs and posting a respectable .267 average. Defense doesn't come into play in fantasy leagues, so Dunn is as good a pick as any to put up great power numbers and lead a fantasy baseball outfield.

1. Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers

Ryan Braun is the preseason's top 2010 fantasy baseball left fielder. In his three Major League seasons, Braun has averaged 34 home runs and 105 RBI per season with 32 homers and 114 RBI in 2009. He was fourth in baseball with 113 runs scored in 2009 and he had the best OPS among left fielders at .937. His .320 average and 114 RBI each ranked second among left fielders. On top of his batting numbers, Braun stole 20 bases in 2009.
