#1 Grossing Football Film:

The Blind Side (2009) - $255 Million - Starring Sandra Bullock and Kathy Bates. Written and directed by John Lee Hancock. Based on the true story of football player Michael Oher. With a total production budget of just $29 million (small for large blockbuster standards), this football film raked in a record-breaking $226 million domestic and $280 worldwide. PG-13

"The Blind Side" was nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Motion Picture of the Year" in 2010, the year the Academy expanded the category's number of nominations. Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role" for her role in the drama.

#2 Grossing Football Film:

Known as "El Aguador" in Spanish, "The Waterboy" resulted in a few awards, though none of them nearly as prestigious as the Oscars. The comedy elicited both a Razzie nomination for "Worst Actor" for Adam Sandler's comedic performance as well as an MTV Movie Award win for "Best Comedic Performance."

Adam Sandler's second foray into the comedic football realm resulted in a second successful movie event, monetarily speaking. As for Razzie's, Adam Sandler was nominated for a Razzie Award for "Worst Supporting Actor." However, just like with "The Waterboy," "The Longest Yard" raked in nominations from Teen Choice, People's Choice and the MTV Movie Awards.
