Top Five Attractions in Orlando, FL

Hilda Christensen
Orlando is known well for its tourism. And that should come as no surprise; it has some of the most popular destinations in the world, drawing visitors from across the world. With a balmy climate typical of Florida, people flock in across the year, fleeing cold, gloomy winters and taking refuge in sunlight.

There's more to Orlando, however, than just good weather. And contrary to popular perception, there's more of a tourist economy than its flagship destination, Walt Disney World. While no Orlando guide could be without the Home of Mickey, it's far from the only place worth visiting. I here lay out for the Orlando-bound traveler a list of five fine destinations. Who knew that Mickey and Shakespeare would practically be in each others' back yards?

Walt Disney World Resort

The Walt Disney World Resort has four theme parks, two water parks, and 24 themed hotels. Check out the sites and rides located in the Magic Kingdom, Disney Hollywood Studios, Epcot or Disney's Animal Kingdom. Splash and swim in the water themed parks at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.

Universal Orlando Resort

The Universal Orlando Resort consists of 2 action packed themed parks: Universal Studios and Islands of Adventures. A water park is located nearby called Wet 'Äòn Wild. Relive classic movies such as Jaws, the Mummy, and Spiderman as you roam the streets that look like movie sets and take in the adventure of exciting simulation and roller coaster rides. Enjoy the nightlife at Universal Studio Citywalk.

Discovery Cove

Discovery Cove is a park that allows guests to experience marine and tropical wildlife firsthand. Filled with exotic birds, coral reefs, and marine life, the park allows visitors to view and interact with several of the exhibits. Guests can snorkel with tropical fish along a coral reef, view and underwater shark tank, swim with various rays, and swim and interact with dolphins.

Wonderworks

Wonderworks is billed as "an amusement park for the mind." Located in an upside-down building, the attraction features over 100 interactive exhibits that stretch the imagination and provides educational experiences for the entire family. Highlights include standing in tornado force winds and experiencing a simulated earthquake.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater

The Orlando Shakespeare Theater is located in Loch Haven Park near downtown Orlando. The season consists of 6 shows that range from classic to contemporary and 2 shows geared toward younger audience. Orlando Shakespeare Theater has been providing quality productions to locals and visitors for years.
