Top Five Awesome Facebook Games

Phillip Chan
Facebook games have become the biggest part of casual gaming, and gamers across the world have taken note. All kinds of different casual games are available on Facebook, with the all-popular Farmville by Zynga being mentioned the most in news reports on the subject. Check out these top five awesome Facebook games today!

FarmVille
At first glance, few would guess Farmville would be so successful. After all, managing a virtual farm sounds like, on paper at least, as much fun as painting a virtual wall. However, Farmville has exploded in popularity and is consistently the top Facebook game in popularity. Players manage a virtual farm, adding new crops and livestock, gaining credits for items and produce through player exchanges and paying for items with real cash. Players can level up through their in-game advancements and experience gains. The game is free to play, but financed by ads and microtransactions. Farmville has received heavy critiscim for its similarities to earlier Facebook games (look up Farm Town), and for some of its marketing practices. Farmville is run by the online game company Zynga, maker of several other popular Facebook games.

Mafia Wars
Set around a Mob business running in multiple cities across the world, Mafia Wars has Facebook players fighting for a criminal empire. Players can fight their friends and win experience points, achievements and so on, leveling up and unlocking new places to visit and expand their criminal empires. Mafia Wars is also run by Zynga, and was sued by the creators of a similar game, Mob Wars. Many of the top Facebook games are run by Zynga. Interesingly enough, a film, through New Line Cinema, is being made, loosely based on the Facebook game of Mafia Wars.

PetVille
Petville, quite similar to the Pet Society on Facebook, is another Zynga game, and is quite popular. Remember Neopets? Petville is somewhat similar, in which players take care of a virtual pet and raise them online. You can earn coins for completing certain tasks and events for and with your pets.

Ninja Saga
Ninja Saga is not made by Zynga, instead it is by a smaller developer (hooray for the little guys!) Players jump into a anime and Asian-themed ninja game world, with heavy RPG (role playing game) mechanics. Graphics are pretty awesome for a Facebook game, especially for the battles. Not surprisingly, Nina Saga looks very similar to a certain popular anime ninja show, Naruto.

Happy Aquarium
Happy Aquarium, by Crowd Star, is one game competing neck and neck with Zynga for dominance of the "aquarium" game theme on Facebook. Happy has millions of users and is quite popular. In it, players take care of a fish tank, clean it, feed the fish in, tap on the tank and more to interact with their pet fish. Players collect coins daily and use them to upgrade their tank. It's not World of Warcraft, but it certainly has millions of amused users.
