"Taking his name makes the relationship real."
Late one night I sat listening to the banter on Call of Duty Black Ops. Between missions, a player's girlfriend took a call in the background. Due to the significant delays and host migration problems on Call of Duty Black Ops, I was able to listen in on the conversation for quite a while. What was the girlfriend talking about? Surnames!
According to the Call of Duty Black Ops girlfriend, taking the name of your boyfriend (or new husband) gives credibility to the relationship. Life is nothing if people don't recognize you are married and the only way people will know you are married is if you take his name. There is also the fact that taking his name makes the relationship last longer.
Really? To all newly married couples - Ladies, change your name and the marriage will last forever.
"You Can't Get Promoted to the Majors from Below the Minors!"
About 1 AM EST on December 14, 2010 the announcement came across Twitter, Facebook and News sources online that Cliff Lee would be signing with the Philadelphia Phillies. He turned down the New York Yankee even though the offer on the table was $50 million more than the Phillies. Luckily, while waiting for a host migration on Call of Duty Black Ops, a group of baseball fans from the Bronx were in the same room and boy were they slightly upset that Cliff Lee signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.
During the conversation, the group waiting for host migration on Call of Duty Black Ops started yelling loudly as other players supported Cliff Lee's decision to sign with the Phillies. One player announced that he was a professional baseball player in a "league below the minors." Needless to say, those Bronx boys on Call of Duty Black Ops took things to a whole new level. I'm pretty sure there were words used I have never heard spoken by a human.
"Friendly spy plane in bound."
Anyone watching Call of Duty Black Ops, or listening to be more specific will understand how tickling it is to listen to Ice Cube. The offline version of the game, or Call of Duty Black Ops career mode, has a character clearly modeled after Ice Cube. This character falls over into the online version of the game.
One night while watching hubby play Call of Duty Black Ops Core Domination Jungle, Ice Cube was narrating. From the start he was yelling at the top of his lungs, "We're losing C", "We've taken the lead", "We're being dominated". Then, out of the mist of loud announcements, Ice Cube speaks one line with the sexiness of LL Cool J or Barry White..."Friendly spy plane in bound."
Suddenly Call of Duty Black Ops is more interesting.
"Oh my God. Oh my God. Ohhh My Goddddd! You ..."
It took me only a few days of listening to Call of Duty Black Ops to learn the rights and wrongs of online gaming. If a fellow player has earned a Killstreak and a care package, sam turret or other crate of goodies has been called in - you do not TOUCH it! It you see the player expire you know he will respawn and come looking for the crate so maybe you should guard the Call of Duty Black Ops goodies until the player arrives again.
Well, hubby is not that gentle. One night (late again, of course) I am listening to a Call of Duty Black Ops Team Deathmatch Jungle and I suddenly here this grown man screaming at the top of his lungs.
"Oh my God. Oh my God. Ohhhh my Godddd! You #@%$ing idiot" as hubby took the crate and proceeded to wreak havoc with a gunship!
I am still processing the idea of a male voice reaching such a high octave.
"Honey, do you mind if I play a little Black Ops?"
I had to give hubby props for asking. Every time he wants to play Call of Duty Black Ops a little boy comes out with the pouty lip and all.
Call of Duty Black Ops is one of the most popular online games played today, probably second only to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Until you have sit down and listened to online gaming, you will never appreciate the funny things people say and how excited they get over taking a flag, blowing up a spy plane and disarming a bomb.
