Top Five Christmas (and Face It, Anytime) Gifts for Persian Cats

Lori Piper
The holidays are here! The holidays are here! Did you remember to get gifts for everyone in your family? To include the four legged flat-faced fluffy-tailed one (s)? Really, not yet? Oh, I see... you are perplexed about what is the perfect gift for your little fur angel. I completely understand. I am here to offer just a few suggestions. After all we have a houseful of these lovely creatures and have learned through trial and error what they like- love- best.

Top Five Christmas (and face it, anytime) gifts for Persian Cats- twist and shout

That song almost always starts playing in my mind when I give our cats the gift of pipe cleaners! Yes, those inexpensive little one dollar a package crafting items are the best toys ever for our Persians!!! They love them. Some will hop all around whilst playing with one. Some will bat and swat at it... and when it moves... runs away. Some carry them around in their mouths...chirping away the whole time at it. Some enjoy playing with only certain colors (cats are not really color blind). We even have some cats that prefer to watch from high ground as the others play, only to discover the perfect moment to pounce at the piper cleaner... and then run away with it. An inexpensive toy your cat (s) will love! And the bonus... they are washable.

Top Five Christmas (and face it, anytime) gifts for Persian Cats- jingle bell rock

Those little toys with the bells in them? Yes, those annoying toys that we have stepped on so many times and broken to many to count? Yes... those toys. The younger cats love them. I mean they really really love them. We have learned to not place so many on the ground that we do not know the exact number of down on the ground jingle toys. That way, if there is an abundance of playtime still going on after we turn in for the evening, we can remember to pick up the toys and put them away until the morning comes. And the joy with the jingle toys begins again. After awhile, we do not even hear the toys. And we have learned that not every cat enjoys the jingly sound. Kittens and younger cats are ones I would recommend be the recipients of this particular toy.

Top Five Christmas (and face it, anytime) gifts for Persian Cats- shake your tail feather

Feather wands. They used to be a dollar to two dollars a wand. We would purchase one or two once a month or so. However, they now run five to seven dollars a wand (I know a complete outrage!) So... we learned to ration the cats' feather wand playing time. When not in use, the wands are no longer left out. I do not know how many times we have come home to mutilated feather wands with the feathers torn out. I mean, after awhile, the wands were a lot less feathery and just plastic wands. So now we stock up when they are on sale and keep them in a top shelf in a closet. Some of the cats will go absolutely bonkers for this toy. Persians are not known for their jumping expertise and to see some of our kitties jump and flip... it is fun to watch.

Top Five Christmas (and face it, anytime) gifts for Persian Cats- tiny dancer

Can you imagine using wire and cardboard to make a cat toy? Think about it, to use what some consider being trash and turning it into one of the best cat toys ever!!!! We love the cat dancers. Cats love them to. A small flexible piece of wire attached to a small piece of cardboard at the end... cats will entertain themselves for hours. They will take turns with one another for this toy. It is amazing, truly!

Top Five Christmas (and face it, anytime) gifts for Persian Cats- all I want for Christmas, is you

You are the best gift to give to any of your Persians. Any of your animals, whatever the breed. Love your kitty and your kitty will love you. Think about it... each of the toys I mentioned, the cats can play with by themselves.... However, if you add yourself into the mix, it makes the toy all the better. The time all the more cherished. If you find yourself finally having a moment to just sit down and rest in front of the television, play with your cats. They will love it and be ever so thankful!

My cats love bread ties. They fall of the kitchen counter and my cats play with them forever. Good list.
