Top Five Cities in Texas to Visit

Hilda Christensen
Texas is more than just desert and barbeque. And it's certainly more than the backwater stereotype portrayed on King of the Hill. (Though as a note, those people do exist - just not in the urban hubs.) For the visitor looking for great places to go, I present five cities to visit here in Texas, the Lone Star State.

Austin

Austin is the Texas state capital and is most famous for live music every night of the week. Located in the Hill Country of Texas it has ample natural beauty and activities for visitors. Its 6th Ave, bisecting the middle of the town, is closed to cars every Friday and Saturday. Thousands of people flood the streets, from rowdy students to, well, rowdy former students.

San Antonio

This historic city know for the Alamo has grown to be a first class destination for both Texans and those visiting the state. In addition to being home of the San Antonio Spurs there is also Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Seaworld San Antonio, an incredible zoo and the popluar river walk in downtown.

Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi remains a quaint coastal town. The city is nestled on Corpus Christi Bay just minutes from the Gulf of Mexico and the Padre Island national Seashore. Fishing, eating and relaxing make this location a coastal favorite. I recommend it to people looking for a quieter alternative that often defies loud Texan stereotypes.

Houston

This is the largest city in Texas and you know this when you are here. Boasting champion teams such as the Houston Rockets, Astros and Texans is just part of this cities allure. Play world class gof courses, fish famous bass lakes, visit the local beaches or shop and dine Texas style, Houston offers it all.

McAllen

In the not to distant past this city was a small town on the dusty Rio Grande River border. NAFTA has changed the face of this once on horse town. McAllen has become a popular destination for visiting Winter Texans as well as Mexican Nationals. Shopping, Birding and of course procimty to Mexico shopping draw tourists to this Texas city.
