5. Dick Vitale- Dick Vitale has a lot of people who absolutely hate him as an announcer and a lot of people who really love him, and I'm somewhere in between. I love the fact that he gets so passionate about the game, but his cutesy calls and his love for the ACC can get to be a bit much at times. He does deserve a spot for what he does for the game as a whole.
4. Jay Bilas- This former Duke basketball player does a very good job breaking down the matchups throughout the game and describing what each player and each team does best. Bilas is very to the point with his commentary which could bother some, but I enjoy listening to a game called by him.
3. Dan Bonner- Bonner is one of the more underrated announcers in college basketball, and he is one of the best. He brings a great knowledge of the game to the table and he is very objective no matter which games he is calling. I hope Bonner gets a chance to do more games in March in the coming years.
2. Jim Nance- I've always enjoyed Jim Nance calling the Final Four basketball games on CBS, and now thankfully he can do it without Billy Packer, who always ruined it for me with his over the top comments. Nance is a very objective announcer and speaks very clearly but forcefully throughout the game. Nance understands when to include humor in the game and when to simply call the game.
1. Gus Johnson- I had to put Gus Johnson number one because I absolutely love hearing him call a game, especially during March. What is so great about Gus Johnson as an announcer? Gus gets into the game like no other announcer does, and when things go nuts, he does too. The way he announces the game truly helps me get more into the basketball game than I am in the first place, which is very difficult to do. Gus Johnson is the man for college basketball, especially in March!
This is a list of who I think are the top announcers in college basketball. The best announcers in college basketball all help you enjoy the game more than you could without them commentating.
