.) Peyton Manning - Manning is simply amazing. To say it bluntly, he is a nightmare for opposing defenses and understands the game more than most offensive coordinators do. His leadership is impressive as he is one of the loudest quarterbacks playing. His control of motioning players to where they should be demonstrates his ability to understand not only what his role is but what other's roles are too. The only thing he was missing was a Superbowl win which he now has.
.) Tom Brady - One of the most gifted quarterbacks in terms of decision making and the ability to win games. Whereas Manning may be an offensive coordinator playing QB, Brady is a machine. He makes the position look easy. It was a very tough battle between the two, but ultimately, Brady needs to improve on his leadership. Manning, arguably still has him beat there.
.) Matt Ryan - After one of the most impressive rookie campaigns not only in Atlanta Falcons history but in NFL history, Matt Ryan has catapulted himself to the ranks of the elite QBs to ever play the game. The ability to take control of the offense, his record as a first year starter, and missing the Superbowl by a slim margin has earned Ryan a spot at number three. Oh, and having Tony Gonzalez to throw to this year also is relevant here as well.
.) Philip Rivers - If a new 92 million dollar contract is not enough, then his performance on the field is. Kind of overshadowed by the others but still with an impeccable release and a strong arm, Rivers is a solid pick at number four.
.) Drew Brees - The leader of a high octane offense earns a spot as number five. A very solid pick, but him being at number five is not to put down his accomplishments or to say that he is slipping. On the contrary, the other quarterbacks have just rose to such a high level that it is difficult to place them any lower. If the preseason numbers from the Saints' offense, then expect good things from Brees this year.
Here is the list of the top five NFL QBs currently playing. Feel free to share your thoughts.
