Nascar has more talented racecar drivers today than it has ever had in the past. Each time the green flag drops there are at least 20 cars that are very capable of winning that particular race. The unknown that comes with each race helps build drama for the sport. Even with the amazing pool of young talent in the sport today, there are a few drivers who stand out as being the best of the best. Let's take a look at the top five drivers in Nascar today.
5. Kyle Busch- Kyle is the younger of the Busch brothers, but as of now he looks like the bigger threat to the stars of Nascar. Kyle has been winning races in the truck series and the Nationwide series the last few years and has started to get more consistent of late. If the M&M's team can continue to work on minimizing the damage on their bad nights, they could certainly win a points title.
4. Denny Hamlin- Denny Hamlin is a confident young guy and with the kind of results his team has been showing on the track, you can't blame him. After knee surgery, he went on to win three of the next six Nascar races. He has proved toughness isn't a problem and his will to win is tremendous.
3. Tony Stewart- Stewart's team has had a bit of a slow start to 2010, but Tony is one of the best drivers in the sport today. The immediate success he had after starting Stewart Haas Racing was amazing. Stewart has two points titles already with Joe Gibbs Racing and is looking to add another with his own team.
2. Jeff Gordon- If this list were made a few years ago he would have been number one, but Gordon is showing he still has plenty left in the tank with an impressive 2010 thus far. He hasn't been putting together the wins, but the car has looked awesome of late. If the team can start getting back into victory lane, Gordon may well get a fifth title before he is done.
1. Jimmie Johnson- Who else could be number one? Johnson has won four Sprint Cup titles in a row in a series stacked with tons of talent. The crew chief and driver relationship between Chad Knauss and Jimmie Johnson is second to none. Every year this #48 team and their driver step up when it counts the most. Until proven otherwise, Jimmie is the man to beat.
