Top Five Google Tricks

John West
Google's been around for years now, but it hasn't eternally stayed the same. Over time Google has been adding functionality to its search engine, and here are my top five picks for the best tricks you can do with Google:

1. In site searching: This allows you to look for content in a specific website, which can be incredibly useful if you already know a good source for the content, but not exactly where it is. It is done by typing "site:desiredwebsite.com" and your search query after that.

2. Using Google as a calculator: This is easily done and it's a great way to multitask. All you have to do is type in your math question the same way you would in a calculator. Search for "4+4" and it will return "8." Search "5^2" and it will return "35."

3. Face search: If you're using Google's image search and you're looking for an image of someone, as opposed to something, you can paste in "&imgtype=face" at the end of the URL and Google will narrow the search results to only include images with faces.

4. Filetype search: This can be useful if you're looking for a specific file or a specific set of files on a repository. The way it's done is by typing in "filetype:desiredfiletype" and then your search query.

5. Searching for a specific type of website: Say, you only want to search for websites with the extension .edu, or .org, this can be done by searching for "site:extension" followed by your query.
