If you are looking for an affordable alternative to buying a costly Halloween costume, perhaps you can make your own homemade Halloween costume. If you are fairly creative, this could come very easily to you. For some, it would even be a good idea to get together with a group of moms and work on them together. Your kids would end up with great homemade Halloween costumes, and you would get some great socializing time with your girlfriends. Here are some great ideas for homemade Halloween costumes:

1.) Ghosts - Even back when there were very few Halloween costumes for sale, you could find a lot of children running around as ghosts. This costume can be done with simple a flat, white bed sheet and some scissors. All you have to do is cut two holes in the middle for eyes, and drape it over your child's body.

2.) Vampires - Vampires are simple homemade Halloween costumes to make. All you need is a white dress shirt and black dress pants. Then, simply create a black cape from any black fabric, put on some black eyeliner, and pop in some cheap, plastic vampire teeth. Your child can run around like a tiny dracula, and you will have hardly spent anything.

3.) Dogs and Cats - If you dress your child in solid brown or solid black sweatpants and sweatshirts, you can easily turn them into cute little puppies and kittens. Simply take face paint (or eyeliner) and, for dogs, draw puppy dog noses and freckles, or even a red tongue coming out of the mouth. For cats, simply draw the kitty nose and add whiskers. If you are feeling extra crafty, you can glue triangles of material onto a cheap headband for ears!

4.) Fairies - If your daughter is a ballerina, or owns a dress-up tutu, chances are she would love to have a homemade fairy costume. Simply slip on that pink leotard and tutu, sprinkle some glitter in her hair, and either buy or make a magic wand. She is sure to love it.

5.) Mummy - This is a very simple homemade Halloween costume. Simply wrap your child's whole body in white ace bandages or strips of cloth. You can even color some of the material with red markers or lipstick for a more gruesome effect!

Whatever you choose to make for your child's homemade Halloween costume, it is sure to be a hit, and save you money!
