Top Five Items Every Flea Market Vendor Needs

Melanie L. Marten
Selling at a flea market requires many hours of preperation, planning, and standing around waiting for someone to stop at your table and buy something. Before you get to the part where you are taking money, however, you start out at home. This article covers the five essential items every flea market vendor could not do without.

Flea Market Essential - Change

This is the most obvious flea market essential. People who come to shop at your booth may not always have the precise amount of cash necessary to buy what they want. Having a good supply of small bills on hand is essential.

Flea Market Essential - Marker and Paper

After a long day at the flea market, many vendors do not want to pack up all their merchandise and lug it home again. One way of dealing with this is having a "Going Home" sale. Use the marker and paper to make quick signs advertising reduced prices. Also, if you do not display prices on each item, these tools will come in handy to make signs for the items people keep asking about.

Flea Market Essential - Tape or String

Tape is needed to hang up those flea market price or sale signs. It is also useful for securing lids on items you are selling, fixing rips in your table cloth or bags, and closing boxes when you pack up at the end of the day. String can be used for many of these things, as well as making a make-shift clothesline to hang items for sale on.

Flea Market Essential - Plastic Bags

While many flea market shoppers bring bags with them, they will always appreciate a vendor who provides a plastic bag to carry their purchase in. Save up the bags from the grocery store and bring them to the flea market with you.

Flea Market Essential - Utility Knife

Last, but not least, every flea market vendor should have some kind of utility knife. If your paper is too large, your tape gets stuck, or the string tangles, you still have a way out.

Flea market vendors need to bring a lot more than just their merchandise to the flea market. These five essential items will help them no matter what type of business they are conducting. Being prepared to sell at the flea market is an important part of making it a profitable experience.
