Top Five Kitchen Necessities For Your First Apartment

V. L. Hamlin
College is over, you are finally moving into your first real apartment and you have nothing but plastic silverware and paper plates in the kitchen. After spending weeks getting your apartment just right, you want to have a housewarming party and invite over a few friends for dinner and drinks, but you have nothing to cook with and nothing to serve it on. What are you going to do? What do you really need in a kitchen anyway?

Below I've listed the top five kitchen necessitates for any young person starting out. Whether you have recently graduated from a top culinary arts school or can just barely make Mac n cheese, you will benefit in the long run for having these items.

# 1 ~ Cookware Set

A seven to ten piece cookware set is perfect. The set usually contains a large pot, two smaller pots and a large sauce pan.

# 2 ~ Frying Pan Set

You are definitely going to need more than one pan, so I suggest a set of 3 or 4 frying pans. How else could you make bacon and eggs at the same time?!

# 3 ~ Pizza Baking Stone

Pizza is a staple in a young person's life! Make it easy to warm up the leftovers with a pizza baking stone! They are so easy to use! Simply place the stone in the center of the oven, turn the oven on to the recommended temperature and wait for it to preheat. Once the oven is preheated, place your pizza directly on the stone and bake for the suggested time!

# 4 ~ Dinner Plates

You will need something to eat all that home cooked food on! I recommend a set of four or eight dinner plates. If you plan to have large dinner parties, go for a larger set with 10 - 12 plates.

# 5 ~ Drinking Glasses and Coffee Mugs

Of course you will also need something to wash it down with, so go for a set of four or eight drinking glasses as well. You never know when someone might stop over! You will also need at least two mugs for early morning coffee!

It may sound like a lot of items, but having the items listed above, should set you on your way to becoming a master chef. Well, maybe. If not, they should definitely help you prepare healthy, fulfilling meals in your own apartment. Spending the extra money now, will save you thousands in the long run! Plus, you can invite friends over now, and actually have something to serve them on!
