Top Five MLB Mascots

Major League Baseball has had some tough times with the public lately since so many of their most powerful sluggers have tested positive for steroids or are suspected of steroid use. The game still has its hardcore fan base that will always be there, but some have wandered away slowly. One thing that continues to grow is the prominence of the Major League Baseball teams mascots. The mascots provide some comic relief throughout the game and allow some fans, especially the children, to have a much better day at the ballpark than they would have otherwise had. Some of the teams have had mascots for many years, while others have adopted the mascots much more recently, but clearly the teams have decided that is well worth the investment to have a dedicated mascot to serve the fans. Which mascots are the best of the best?

Top 5 MLB Mascots

1. Phillie Phanatic- There is no denying that the Phanatic takes the top spot here. The Phanatic debuted in 1978 and has been a fan favorite ever since. Each home game in Philly the Phanatic shoots hot dogs into the crowd. He is also known to taunt and kid around with members of the opposing team.

2. Bernie Brewer- The new Miller Park in Milwaukee has moved Bernie higher up the list, as he now has his own nice little dugout. Every time the Brewers hit a home run Bernie takes off down the big plastic yellow slide to the crowd's roars.

3. Mr. Met- Mr. Met does a great job of keeping the fans involved in every game. He was first introduced to the team way back in 1963, and his popularity has grown by leaps and bounds since that time.

4. Wally the Green Monster- Wally debuted much later than most, in 1997, but since that time he has become very famous with his constant interaction with the players and the fans. At first the older Red Sox fan didn't like the idea of Wally the Green Monster, but most everyone seems to have come along and joined his fan club.

5. Billy the Marlin- Billy the Marlin is a rather unique mascot and he is certainly quite the entertainer. Billy goes out of his way to pull pranks and practical jokes on just about everyone and it is always a laugh for people at the ballpark.

These are the top five MLB mascots today. In the past the San Diego Chicken was also a huge success, and in the future there will certainly be other mascots that catch the eye of the average fan!
