1) The Shining (1980) Adapted from the book "The Shining" written by Stephen King. Is #1 on my list of The Top Five Most Frightening Scary Movies of all Time. Jack Nicholson played his part perfectly. His evil and demented look in his eyes is truly scary no matter how many times you see this movie. His son saying redrum over and over is another memorable scene in this fright fest that contains many of those moments. Just the thought of haunted hotel gives people the goose bumps and Shelly Duval and Jack Nicholson take this extremely frightening book of Stephen Kings and with their superb acting add an even more frightening experience to it. The Shining is the scariest movie of all time.
2) Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (1974) TCM is a true horror classic movie. The beginning of the movie has a line that says "based on a true story" that really sets the stage to get people scared. If someone is watching a movie and they think the story is true that makes it that much more frightening. TCM is about a grossly disfigured and mentally cruel thing called "Leatherface" who wears a human skin mask. The roar of the chainsaw adds even more fright to this horror classic. When I was pregnant with my first son, the drive-in our area was airing this cult classic has a special, this was in 1986 and I had not saw the movie yet. I was so tired though so I went to sleep in the back seat as my husband a friend of his watched it. I remember being awoken by the roar of that chainsaw and the screams of the woman being chased and sawed in two by Leatherface. I awoke with my heart pounding so hard I could feel it in my ears. I was about to run out of the car screaming my head off when I realized we were at the movies. I had never heard such blood-curling screams in all my life and that moment stays in my memory has probably the most frightening experience with a horror flick and I had not even watched the show yet. I was so scared of this movie that I did not watch it until about 10 years later. I spent most of it covering my eyes and grabbing my husbands arm.
3) Carrie (1976) Adapted from the book "Carrie" written once again by the king of horror himself Stephen King. Carrie is a girl who has a religious fanatic and cruel Mother and she is also ridiculed in school. Carrie has telekinetic powers; some kids at school decide embarrassing Carrie at the prom would be a funny thing to do. Carrie teaches them a lesson that no one will ever forget. I remember when I first saw this movie, it scared me so badly and I had nightmares for a long time. Even now when I watch this movie I still get scared. Sissy Spacek played Carrie and she brought to life the torture Carrie felt inside from her Mother and her classmates. Carrie is #3 on my list of the Top five most frightening scary movies of all time, because in today's world this movie can still frighten the viewer tremendously. With all the school shootings that have happened this movie shows what terror can be caused by cruel to another person. However, Carrie uses telekinetic powers instead of a gun.
4) Halloween (1978). Will Michael Myers ever leave our memories? With all the sequels I doubt that he will. I love each Halloween movie that is made. However, none of them compare to the first. Jamie Lee Curtis knew how to scream and send shivers down your spine. Kids love this movie, especially during the Halloween season. Halloween helps get them in the scary mood. In 1978 when the first Halloween aired it totally scared the viewers so badly that they screamed for more and sequels are always being made. Almost 30 years later and Michael Myers still scares those who dare watch the evil that never dies.
5) The Silence of the Lambs' (1991). Anthony Hopkins knows how to take a scary movie and play his part so well that he is forever thought of as the cannibal. The scenes where he plays with Jodie Fosters mind are also forever etched in viewer's minds. This movie is has grotesque as it is frightening. This is the only SOTL that Jodie Foster played in and in my opinion it is the best of them all. To see a movie of a guy who kills people and then makes himself a skin suit out of their skin is truly disturbing and frightening. You won't soon forget this movie and you make not sleep well after.

Post a Commenti can't understand why the shining is in every top 10 list of horror films. yes, its a nice movie but it didn't frightened me at all. just a simple thriller.
What about the Exorcist!!
All these films are great! The Shining keeps topping everybody's list. I would have put TCM above it, but anyway.
