Top Five Movies Staring Sandra Bullock

Ebie Harris
Sandra Bullock has kept us entertained for years with her movies. Deemed "America's Sweetheart" in the early 90s, Bullock has that girl-next-door personality and movie star good looks. Her wit and charm only intrigue us more. Sandra Bullock carries herself with an energy that cannot be denied. She is known for playing in movies of all genres; drama, romantic comedy, and action. She really came into her success in 1994 with her role in "Speed" opposite of Keanu Reeves. Besides keeping busy with her movie career, Bullock has her own production company, Fortis Films. With so many movies under her belt it is difficult to come up with her career bests. After much consideration I have narrowed it down to my top five.

The Proposal (2009)

This is a romantic comedy where Bullock stars along side Ryan Reynolds. Bullock, a book editor, finds herself on the verge of deportation unless she marries. As the movie progresses we see how Reynolds, her male assistant, is coerced into marrying her. Of course things are not always as they appear and this movie has a great turn of events.

I think this is a great movie about finding love in unexpected places. This is a great date movie; likeable for both sexes. One of my favorite clips from the movie is when Bullock offers up Reynolds family dog to a hawk who had swooped down and taken her cell phone. I still laugh about that part and I haven't seen the movie in months. That's how I knew it had to be included on my top five list.

The Blind Side (2009)

This is an amazing movie based upon a true story. It is the story of Michael Oher, a homeless teen, who defeated all odds and became an All-American football player. The story follows the early part of Oher's life where his mother was a drug addict and his father was absent. Oher was basically had to fend for himself on the streets. He meets Bullock and her family and their compassion really changes his life.

This was important to add on my list because it is an overall feel good movie. I love hearing about true stories that have a great ending. The story is not only interesting, but the movie is so well done. You cannot help but route for this boy. There is a really great message behind this movie. It is amazing to see how far a little compassion can really impact someone's life.

Miss Congeniality (2000)

This movie is about how an FBI agent (Bullock) has to enter the Miss U.S.A. Beauty pageant in hopes of stopping a group threatening to bomb from within the organization. In the beginning of the movie Bullock portrays a women who has very little interest in physical beauty and by the end of the movie you can see how her thoughts have changed.

This is a fun movie to watch. It is great to see Bullock change roles so easily in the movie; from frumpy and clumsy to graceful and elegant. Her role in this movie reminds me of her role on George Lopez as "Accident Amy." Bullock has this dry sense of humor that is just effortlessly.

While You Were Sleeping (1995)

This movie follows lonely ticket agent Lucy (Bullock) and her mundane life. Lucy spends her day fantasizing about her crush, Peter. On Christmas Day Lucy saves Peter from the train tracks that he is pushed onto by a mugger. Lucy then follows Peter to the hospital and there the family mistakes her for Peter's fiance. The only one that is skeptical is Peter's brother. As the movie progresses we see that once again love can pop up in unexpected places.

This movie was good to watch unfold. I think there were enough twists and turns to keep everyone interested. The concept was sort of unusual but not unheard of. I mean how many of us can relate to lusting after someone that we see in our daily lives but never talked to. Bullock played such a likeable character you wanted to cheer her on in finding love.

28 Days (2000)

This film is about the heartbreaking journey Gwen (Bullock) goes through as she deals with her alcoholism. Gwen is forced into rehab after a drunk driving crash on the day of her sisters wedding. 28 days looks at her struggles and accomplishments as she strives to overcome her addiction.

This was on my top five list because I feel Bullock does a great job of portraying the struggles of alcoholism. The movie was serious but it had an undertone of laughs to it. Bullock did a great job showing the struggles some endure in rehab. The movie focused on real life issues yet it was watchable. Bullocks character was on that you could relate to and wished she would do well. On a lighter side the ending was my favorite part of the movie. I love the scene where Alan Tudyk was buying yet another plant because he could not keep any alive. He was visually upset because during their stay at rehab it was suggested to the patients that they first learn how to take care of a plant before they enter a relationship. A classic seen indeed.
